E36 with lids ... what do you think of this look?

I gave up fabricating a custom grill ... so I spent some time cutting an original grill and making those headlight lids (from an old broken grill) today.
I didn't allign 'em to perfection yet but this is the look - what do you think, guys?

I think eyelids look good with the BMW lights. I think they need to be painted black to better blend in with the rubber off the hood over the lights. This will also help them mask the fact that the lids are not contoured with the hood.

Black grill with black eyelids might work.

Yeah ... I'l get rid of "siver" and paint 'em black - I was just talking about the look. Also there will be an aluminum insert for the grill opening (round or diamond mesh - I didn't decide yet).
BTW, I planned to remove these rubber pieces from both sides and attach a "rubber" on the whole lengh on the hood (but still attach it to the hood - not to the lids and grill). Also I plan to make plastic side covers and connectors between grill and lids (so they would look as one piece).

But in general ... do you, guys, think it is acceptable look or just forget about it ...?

Not really feeling it, either.

The only E36s that I have liked are the ones with the Max headlight covers like James and AWSM66 did. There might be someone else, but I can't recall.

They just don't quite look right otherwise. You are on the right track, though. Maybe if the eyelids were black and curved at the same angle as the hood? I dunno. Jbr8k is probably right about the black, too.

They look fine to me, just paint em black like everyone has said. Also, I think your driver side lens need a little cleaning up.

I guess as with anything it's 50/50

MrGone: I remeber that u r in love with stock once (lol) - u posted the same thing when I did headlights conversion

Brad: I did clean it ... 2 many bugs at summer time

BTW, my other project is leather interior. I even bought "girly" stuff -sewing machine ... well it's a leather sewing machine
I'll post pics when finished (so far I finished headrests and back covers for front seats - looks great so far).

It sorta flows witht the top of the grill. With some slight tint to the corners it'll look good.

Too bad there's not much u can do to make the eyelids wrap the corners.

do they ever blink, it looks like your car's eye's are stoned. anyone else see this. ohh and paint them black. i think they would flow better if they were rounded off where it meets the grill. sh*t you mind as well paint the grill black too.

There just something about it that not making it sit right. Maybe if the grill gets aligned or something but its seems like you're close just not finished yet!
