best muffler for a VG?

Im wondering what everyone's favorite muffler is, i was thinkin about getting a flowmaster 40 delta flow muffler. My friend has one on his contour and stang GT and they sound pretty badass.

my favorite by far would be the 6 dollar ones on ebay. those roxors.

seriously though i have a magnaflow "loud" series(not a real series btw ) and its too loud for me now, at first i loved it and i think that since i drive so much to work i want something quiet, but a tad bit of throat when i step on it, so this weekend im hopefully getting my 5th gen muffler put on.

here is a thread with a few links to some sound clips.

I think Ravin might be going out of business. I've been trying to call and get a hold of dealers. My local Midas doesn't carry them anymore. But according to their website they're still a dealer.

This sucks, because I was going to do a new dual exhaust on my truck

Someone should make a website or even a thread about muffler sounds for each one on the market. Theres so many different ones, its hard to choose. The best way to pick a muffler is to just keep swapping around once in awhile till you find something you like, right?

I wouldn't rule out the magnaflow. I would however stay away from the race series magnaflow. Those don't reduce noise much at all. I once had a race series on my 4cyl SER and it was loud as hell, everything in the car would rattle. Put a standard magnaflow on instead and it was day & night difference. I'd also stay away from the street series with single tips, they have a "tuning tube" inside that really bottlenecks flow. But the dual tip street series should be a good choice along with the universal magnaflow ones. Check out nissanperformancemag.com for some good exhaust info.

You'll never get that sound from our engines. Theres sounds like that cause of it being a boxer engine. That nice throaty rumble is awesome!

The Ravin comes close... not exaclty... but close. If I pop my RPMs to just about 2000, the exhaust will pop down like a truck or old muscle car. I'll try to get a clip of that one of these days. (along with the interior so you see how loud it is to the driver)

It's awesome though if I hit a hill just right in 1st or 2nd gear. It does the sweet old muscle car sound REALLY loud. Makes everyone stare.

headers?

Speaking of exhaust, do you guys ever install headers? Would 300ZX TT manifolds flow better than my stock '89 SE's?

- there is no such thing.
- u seem to be after sounds; buy one an trim it to u tastes
- some are after power, but there is no single everyones's answer either: depends on powerhouse entity how exhaust has to be tuned. Some want low end torque, some high rpm end pwr. As requirement differ, so do tuneup means. No single answer...
- Personal comment: stock exhaust seems to flow quite nice even with the original corkscrew, even after 20-25% intake flow increase...

definitely don't get the 40 series for our cars. imo, they sound absolutely horrible but even worse the interior droning is unbearable. i have a magnaflow and like it quite a bit, especially the stainless steel design. greddy seems to be really popular.

oh yeah, another thing i should mention is flowmasters don't flow worth a ****

I have a 40 series on my 2nd gen, I'll try and get a sound clip to post for you guys later today. It has a good throaty sound to it, and it isn't too loud at all inside the car. You can hear it, but the noise from the intake is louder from inside.

I just put a Greddy SP catback exhaust on 2 weeks ago. (Easily did it myself) I am truly amazed with how good it sounds. It's a deep sound. Right now I have 2 bad injectors, so have a bad putt-putt sound coming out of the tailpipe. Currently sounds like a big Harley motorcycle, that's how deep it is. Once I have those fixed, I'd be willing to submit a sound sample. I would have liked having a sample when I was shopping for my muffler. Definitely has a muscle car sound. Not too loud either, unless I really stomp on it. : ) Looks VERY nice too. I can't believe I spent the money on it, but am extremely glad I did.

Have you guys heard of or seen the Aero Turbine muffler. I happened upon this website (http://www.aero-turbine.com/index.html), but am not sure if it would be good for our cars and what kind of sound it would put out. Any opinions?
Thanks.

I have the Magnaflow 'Street Series' Dual Tip (part #14816) going on this week. I'll post a sound clip as soon as it's on.

(the one in my sig pic is a stock ((15 yr old original -- I might add)) with a dual tip extension. Can't knock OEM for durability on this part. The thing won't quit!)

I love my 3a racing muffler. I know it's no magnoflow or flowmaster, but it's the best one I think I have heard other then Greddy

I'm not a fan of aeroturbine because their mufflers just odn't look like they'll live up to their claims.
and I am (or was) an authorized dealer for them

I had a Dynomax Super Turbo on my ol' Altima (RIP) and plan on doing the same for my max. Very low droning, never worried about cops when I stayed off the gas, but she sounded nice and deep at WOT.
