Exhaust Studs - A Thanks

I just wanted to say thanks to everyone who wrote a how-to and also guys who just emntioned tips in various posts about fixing the exhaust studs.

My tip would be instead of trying to drill them out, build them up with a mig welder until you can weld a nut on,if you dont own a mig welder then go to a bar and talk to people until you find someone that owns a mig welder and then be his friend

Thanks 3rd gen maxima forums for all the help

Good idea. My 'royal repairmain' uses mig to 'weld' around a bearing housing: housing gets hot =expands. Then only one quick hit with a hammer, and the bearing falls off... ...fast and no need for extractor tool.

Cannot since the head material is aluminum so it wont stick It wasnt even THAT hard to get at wiht the mig welder torch but it was a 2 man job. Me to weld and my friend to blow the sparks away from landing on me,I did have my arm wrapped up and a glove on but can never be too safe

After bulding them up wiht the welder coulda taken them out with your fingers... well maybe not fingers but you know the feeling when you cannot turn a bolt with your fingers but with a wrench it is super easy to turn..

Also i forgot to mention how much more I love my car now.. I was starting to hate it even being in the yard but now I remeber why I bought it,gobs of low end torque and the sweet sound of power... not GLUG GUG FART FART GLUG

Thanks again everyone

Were those broken studs in your heads or the ones you got from me?

I recall there being a couple of them busted off in mine, too. However, it never made a sound.

Good job on using the welder to get them out.

The exhaust manifold studs are located in the head (aluminum), not the block.
