In the end, it's still a FWD car that isn't meant to put out that much power, as it demonstrated to me. I'll need new tires at least in order to drive it in the winter, so it's losing some of it's usefulness. I just don't know what to do with it, I thought I'd never sell it, but if the right offer came along....
standard offer
91k ~4 years -> 170k; still fairly strong. I'm beginning to worry about rust in the doorjams but I will probably have it repaired when I get the cash. I'd like to drive this until I get out of school and then hopefully buy a new car, or maybe just a 3rd gen with lower miles that I can dump tons of money into
I love my VE so much, even if it does have horrible lifter noise, and it is a little sluggish with the whole VTC issue.

My first car was an '89 ford probe gt turbo that I bought for $1600. I modded it lightly, put 10k really hard miles on it, and sold it to some idiot for $2500. I really thought that thing was going to blow up right before I sold it.
Then I bought my maxima for $4700 almost 3 years ago. It had 112k miles on it and now it has 137k miles. It's been a great car and I'll probably NEVER sell it. If the engine blows up I'll just replace it. I want to keep it running for as long as possible.

Had my 94 VE 5 speed now for 5 years and 52K miles. Including 3 years in the city of chicago. My gifts from the city are a nice long gash in the passenger's rear door and rust
It's enjoying it's TX life now. The rust demons are subsided now and it likes the clean air vs. the smog.

Bought mine in 1998 only 5 years old MINT CON GXE had like 50k on it had her for 6 years now, but when i went to S.C. in 2002 It got crased by the person who was keeping it for me not bad,but not good busted headlight, driver fender and hood, moved to Texas in 2003 parked it for almost 2 yrs while i was in Iraq and now its back on the road 125k on it and starting to show i need to do some upgrades to her.Fixed the body but I am wanting to get my heads reworked but its a VG and I was wondering About swaping the heads from a VE will this work ? You know If you just keep the bottom end of the motor they are the same right? Just 2 cams instead 0f one? Its NOt a n00b Question as I do my work myself and have done many head and motor swaps on my 93 Laser P.O.S. and other trucks and cars in my life
I have had mine since March 2000 and bought it 7yo with 54.000 kms on it. Since then I have put about 130.000 kms on it. Planning to keep it for a few more years, by then I will be totally lost and confused as to what car to buy, looking at the quality of modern cars going down the drain.

please dont tell people this, then they get it into their heads that it is something that can be done and they make worthless threads about it and blah blah blah.
Hi, Just went to an auto auction. Husband told me to buy a Toyota 4 cylinder. I fell for a 1989 Nissan Maxima with a V6 and bought it. Never owned one before. It seems in great condition. I'm just a newbie and trying to find information on them so I can try and explain all the pro's to what I bought. Any help?
Good choice!! You got the VG. It's a nice reliable car! I used to own an 89 GXE myself. I loved the car to death x_x

2. its a lot faster than a toyota
3. the VG engine is known to go for well over 300,000 miles
4. in my opinion 3rd gens are one of the best buys around for used cars. undervalued on kbb.
5. go to epinions.com and check out how many good responses the "1989 maxima" gets. average 4.5 stars out of 5. almost 5 out 5 stars everytime from lifetime owners. there are almost no cars on that rate that high - and its an 89!
you were right - he was wrong!

oh yea... the camry comes in 4, i was thinking corolla.
thats true the camry's are reliable...
BUT, consider this:
original price for camry base model in 1989: 11,000
original price for maxima base model in 1989: 17,500
current kbb for camry base '89 model: 1,570
current kbb for maxima base '89 model: 1,500
wouldn't you agree the maxima has been undervalued? i would say for less money you get far more car.
