so sick of my crappy gas mileage
02 sensor changed
spark plugs changed
changed oil
changed tranny fluid
will change the fuel filter soon
I mean, ! I go through gas like the air I breath. There has to be something I can do to help this problem or am I just going to be prone to having crappy mileage

When is the last time you changed the fuel filter? Might want to Seafoam the intake manifold and get the injectors professionally cleaned as well. Also, how fast do you drive on the highway?

could be, except... I know that it goes into closed loop because when I had the knock sensor non-funct, you could easily tell when it switch modes. it was a dog in closed loop, but ran like a bat out of he|| in open loop.
nowadays it always runs good because the knock sensor has been dealt with

That's pretty fast. Mine takes at least a mile or two for to reach operating temp. Middle of the temp dial

I guess VE > VG in the mpg department, along with hp.
I routinely get 28-30 mpg on the highway (spirited driving, too) and about 25ish around town when I am running errands around Portland.
When I only go to work, my mileage isn't that great because my work is only 2 miles away. I usually coast most of the way there and the thing doesn't even get up to temp. Still, I will only put like $10 in every two weeks if I am only driving to work.

Fuel filter will be changed to and tripleGmax is right, I do need a tuneup most likely. Sorry guys, I don't have the exact miles per gallon, but give me a day or so and i'll let you guys know.
As of this, "What is your compression readings??" I don't know anything about that and the coolant engine temp sensor seems normal
Don't know much about this either other then I know what the distributer is, but not how it could affect my mileage, " what about your distributor cap and rotor."
" TODOs:
1. Repair the vacuum lines. Wiking's cardomain pages for info." You wanna explain why if I don't see anything wrong with them?
One more thing is that I am a delivery driver in it and I know that has something to do with it, but it still seems extremely bad. I drive between 65-69 on the highway

not too mention they're cheap enough to replace.
my buddy normally has a max or 2 on the lot anyhow, so if I blow my motor and feel like swapping it, I'll just pull one from him.
Heck right now he has VG 5 spd sitting there with leather.

that said my camaro for example does get babied, then again it's also older than most posters on this forum.
but that's already had it's motor swapped once.
actually the max has a quasi replacement on the horizon right now. just can't decide if I want to let the max go yet, or just have 3 cars at least until I get a legacy AWD Turbo'

Yes. But I also don't want to put up with an oiler that's down on compression for most of it's life. "Just swap"? Well a DECENT jdm ve is $700 and up. Just putting in another crappy engine that just happens to run is a waste. Especially for the huge pain and cost for doing it right.
I've done two swaps on my own and one for Chris. Even with the engine, it was still a few hundred dollars in spare parts to servive the engine right before putting it in.

who said JDM?
I check the motor in the car by him, so I know what I'm getting.
mileage is irrelevant to me, and if I can't drive like I stole it, I don't need it.
I only have 1 car to baby.
this swap is no more complex than any other, and is simpler than the one I've got going on in the gargage now.

BTW, I only paid $200 for this car anyhow. how much money you really think I'd put into it?
it is starting to rust in the door jamb so how much longer I'll keep it is questionable.
right now it's being kept because it's a 4 door.

One should swap studs, do the ks, rear/front main seals, swap intake manifolds, do the waterpump etc... all parts and gaskets will cost a few hundred. That makes a bit more involved than a normal swap.
What swap are you doing now? Got pics?

stop changing the subject everyone, with today's gasprices this would be a good topic to take more seriously
think of it this way
get "E"mpty, drive to a gas station and fill it with ten dollars in hellevue's gas station that is 2.47 or so i beleive. Fill car with 10 dollars, reset the travel dist.
that will get you approx four (4) gallons which should get you about 80+ miles assuming you get city+highway. cars like cold air too (not the case these days but isnt a problem in washington), i also heard that bad air filters drasticaly impact gas mileage. yours looked fine though..
its kind of an illusion that it eats gas like crazy, i had that too because i put in about ten dollars per day. Do what ive told you, give me the number of miles you got before you reached Empty or below. then well figure **** out

Air Filter does NOT affect one bit of mpg. It juts chokes your horses.
Edit: And before u naysay against the filter issue, test it DIY. Put a plastic bag with small hole in front of u filter and drive five (5) tank fulls to calculate mpg...

the system is consistent so im sticking with it.
i also said that i heard the thing about the air filter, i didnt say its what i think. personally i think that bad mpg has to do something with his wheels because the engine's condition is good

- your mileage has 5-10% error
- your fillup changes 1-2 gallons depending on tilt
- the filling stations are known to have 'tuned gauges': mob robs u
Alltogether, u never rEALLY know.
If u install peiseler -wheel, and electronics flow -gauge: THEN u just might...
But as u said. Keep what u got and enjoy...

if i had that much time and resources to calculate my mpg, then that would like, suck.
my numbers dont fluctuate that much, maybe by one or two miles but thats it. this is why i like the way i do things now. 4 out of 5 times i get gas at a same gas station.

- in your case...and that is good. One driver, same habits, same person fillin up, similar flat routes with same load, tires allways checkEd etcetc...
i like the way i do
- in your case they give good info when tuneup is needed. BUT Absolute numbers: you may compare to others, but factually lol
get gas at a same gas station
- hlping THE same mobster (no... I am too harsh. There are also a couple of straight guys in this world...)
What I am saying, that mpg numbers always contain margin of error. And the error margin is not saying that the result are wrong. No. It tells that possibly the number is not right - nobody knows. Somebodys 25mpg might be actually more than else's 30mpg.
Hundreds of things affect mpg, every day is different; when 'rust recall 5' starts to affect, numbers drop terriblese. Your system (=also mine) will catch tHat. Still, for me 5-10% difference between fillups means business as usual: I am being robbed with 6$/gallon and mob and... unameit.
