rpm's and acceleration.

I've noticed lately a correlation between my rpms and the amount of gas I give my max and how they affect the acceleration. I believe this happens becuase of gear changing. Anyway, I have a 92 gxe automatic trans. What I've noticed is if I floor it, the rpm's rev up real high (obviously) and your off. However, perhaps this is due to the ecu, it seems that my max doesn't switch gears until it's in the higher rpms, when it does this it feels like the acceleration peaks and then speeds back up again once it changes into the next gear. The thing i've noticed though is, if I go ahead and let off the gas at a certain point on the rpm's, around 3000-4000, and press back on the gas again the acceleration is much smoother and consistent. Perhaps it just feels this way, I'm not sure. But, why would this be? Would an ECU upgrade be inorder to correct it? Also, unrelated to this issue, I know that rpm stands for rotations per minute, but could someone please tell me what this is relating to? I mean, what rotations of what per minute?

Thanks.

haha the rpms your refering to are how fast your engine is spining so if your rpm gauge or "tach-O-meter" read 3000 that mean the crankshaft in your engine rotates 360 degrees 50 times a second

i cant answer your trans question partially because its pretty vague but when the trans shiftes into the next gear do the rpms drop back down or do the stay high

if the rpms drop in half after the shift i would say everythings fine

if they stay high your trans is sliping which means either your low on fliud or your trans is about to die

No, the rpms drop back down after they rev up when changing gears.

Might be the feelin. Might be actual: soot in TPS resistor slide surface will give nonlinear signal response. TCU/ECU uses TPS input always in gearbox control.

What youre doing with gas pedal play, youre actually rotatin TPS back and forth.

TPS is used also when engine is cold; is there any stuttering?

Clean TPS, tranny and TCU connectors, check voltages at batt and TCU/ECU.

acceleration tends to be smoother in higher gears , albeit more slowly.
everything you're describing sounds normal to me.
