Windshield replacement ...
Windshield replacement ...
I got a really horrible crack on it last week (i.e. non-repairable).
So I called Autoglass ... and I still can't believe it - they told me it will cost just CND$350 (new glass with original bronze tint, including installation, rubber seal and molding).
I planned to replace windshield anyway - visibility is not so good any more (well it's 13 years old).
Just wanted to share...

$350 is a ridiculous price.
I was so happy it's not $500 lol
I just don't have time to shop around - most of the time I'm on the road (business travel).
But still ... I don't get it how it can be $130 ...?
Labor and rubber: $100-150 (total it takes 3 hours from start to finish)
Parts: - glass 130
- molding 25
Tax: 15%
Total comes to $300-350
As far as i know, just 3 different kinds of "rubber" would cost around $50-80 (meaning Id rather pay somebody $100-150 to install it).
Glass itself ... it just can't cost $50 (unless it is from a junk yard).
Molding must be replaced ...
So ... how can it come to $130 ??? I'm really confused ...

That is too bad, because ~2 years ago I was negotiating windshield replacement with my mech and he said he could order one from a guy in Buffalo for CDN$120 and do the work for $80 cash. You should shop around and find a better deal!
My cousin did the w/s in his Toyo Sprinter (Japan Corolla) himself alone and he is not a mechanic at all. He spent 3 hours.

I used to have a '92 SE. Clearcoat was peeling on hood. I got a starburst in the black border that I didn't see. Grew up the driver's side so I had to replace the windshield. The car had been hit in the front end and improperly repaired. The windshield was held in w/ a bead of RTV. Guy said if I'd been rear-ended, even at slow speed, it would've popped out. Deep rust in the roof 'cause the RTV let in moisture. I sold the car. Remember, CARFAX, CARFAX, CARFAX...
