injectors and premium fuel
Ok, so i got my radiator flushed today and there is a new guy that works at the shop i always take my car. he suggested that i run premium fuel everyonce in awhile to keep my injectors clean......
any truth in this? because the one time i ran premium my car didnt run that great it seemed...i have no advanced timing or anything.
just curious

It's the wheels.
Premium is supposed to have more detergents to keep existing clean injectors clean. But by no means will it actually clean out a dirty injector.
I'd would just buy a bottle of Techron and put it in once every few months?

Hard to say. I have bad fuel injectors, and when the motor started shuddering, I changed to premium full-time (before, I would only use it occasionally), and dump in either Royal Purple or Slick50 fuel system cleaner (depends on whatever is in stock) every 3000 mi or every oil change. Since then, the car runs normal like it used to.

Just an fyi. Chevron Techron is offering full rebates on up to two 12 gallon treatment bottles till' the end of the month (I found the mail-in at Autozone). Free stuff is always nice, especially when it's the stuff you use.

I thought Nissan recommended against using any kind of fuel injector cleaner?
If you are going to use it, I believe most shops and dealerships use BG 44k and there are a lot of guys in the fluids and lubrications section that claim to have good results.

it is true,
nissan says not to use fuel injector cleaner,
because it will distory the inside of the injector,
i lost a fuel injector because of using chevron techron,
i tried lucas fuel injector cleaner and it didn't help that much either

I think if you were to use injector cleaner once in a very great while, it isn't going to destroy your injectors. It likely will if you use it every month or every oil change or some other frequent application.
I am no professional, so please don't take this as advice, just my own opinion.

i took your professional advice Red92MaxSE and now my car has all bad injectors and im holding your responsible.........ok ok im kidding, but i get what youre saying now, thanks a bunch man!!
i usually only run something through once every 3 months, but i had been putting alot of miles on my car....

with my old nissan I used to use Marvel Mystery oil at every oil change, in the fuel and in the engine. Kept my car going to 225,000 miles with never doing any engine work (just tune ups and the like) I finally got rid of that car because coolant was leaking into the passenger side and the car was falling apart, but the engine was as solid as ever. I now sometimes use MMO but it has gotten ridiculously expensive, so its a rare treat for my Maxima.

You know what? My engine is just as clean. But it starting ticking away recently too. It might be the fast idle + hot weather + 5w30 oil. I notice when it's a bit colder out, it won't tick nearly as much. I might try short changing the oil with 10w 30 and see what happens. I also note that the tick reduces alot with the new filter. One option might be to 2x the filter changes and maybe use synthetic. Dunno.

Orrrrr, rebuild the VTC's
you could try a motor flush at your next oil change (use a cheapo filter while doing the flush). that will help clean the oil gallies.

i do believe all grades of gas are required to have detergents. no one grade is cleaner than the other. the only time you need to run premium is if you start hearing pinging/knocking/detonation on lower grades of gas (i.e. if you're making quite a bit more power over stock that requires you to use gas that resists pre-detonation better).

I might do an engine flush later in the summer.
I changed the oil when I got the car back from Jeff (September or October?) and I changed it again like in March. I think I have driven it maybe 600 miles since March and maybe 900 miles since Jeff installed the JDM.
Since I don't drive the Maxima much, I usually just change the oil every six months or whenever I get bored enough to do it.

That's the thing. My engine is squeaky clean. Absolutely no varnish at all. Looks like Chris's jdm engine. I don't see how the gallies could be clogged at all. Perplexing.

How long as your rebuild lasted? The 1st time I let the dealer do it, one ticked after about 10,000 miles. I'm not that sold on rebuilt vtcs

Well, I drive my car between 1500 and 2000 miles a year.
I think even if they were clacking almost full time (they only clack sometimes right now), I should be able to squeeze 10k miles (about 5 years for me, give or take) out of the car. That's good enough. Maybe in 5 years I will consider putting in the rebuilt ones.

Its only been 6k, I'm not commuting like I used to . I wanted to add a counter on my sig, but the number won't move much . I have a little tick during startup but thats just the lifters and its only 2 seconds, and probably due to the car ocasionally sitting as much as 24 hrs.
