they refuse to look at the manifold? when i went to my local muffler shop 2 weeks ago, they put the car on a lift and got underneath it to check the manifolds for leaks. if dudes refuse to check the manifolds, take it to another shop. try something local, not a midas or similar chain.

Use a stub remover like this one

A socket type like this one would be a lot better
Or the budget version

The double nut budget version is definately a tried and proven method for removing and installing studs, but when you have a stud in the condition like his the budget version isn't an option.

If welded to the end of stud, than yes. If welded at the block than it is no different than expensive stud extractor.

What's your secret? How did you finally get it out? After all this you can't leave us hanging. The hole that's in the stud, does it have anything to do with how you got it out?

Of course it does. I drilled through the stud vertically, and stuck an allen wrench in there, then turned the allen wrench. I used lots of PB Blaster on the part where the stud meets the head.

Thanks for all the help guys..

Props for thinking outside the box, you must have a pretty steady hand to drill a hole dead center in the stud. The solution was out of the ordinary, but whatever gets the job done.
