heater core

someone asked in a previous thread about where I got my heater core. Here is the link at rockauto.com. It was a little over $80.00 with shipping. http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/cata...&parttype=6864

They were the cheapest I could find. I recieved mine pretty quickly after I ordered it.

Great find! I am in need of a heater core and I'm really strapped for cash. We'll need plenty of beer to handle this job!

BTW, are you sure this is the correct part? Have you installed it in your car yet?

I went with oem nissan. For the HUGE pain it is to replace, I wanted oem quality.

What's the ballpark price for OEM? I haven't called the dealership about this yet.

so, would you guys say that I got the correct heater core from the pics I posted?

Oh and one other thing I noticed when shopping around for them. They always have two different ones, one with auto climate control and manual climate control, is there really a difference between these two heater cores, or is it just the way the companies system catalogs their products?

It looks like the right one. But I noticed it doesn't have the plastic tubes on it like some of the OEM ones have. You will just have to swap them out even though it's best to replace them. I can't speak on the differences between the manual and auto control cores. Maybe someone else will chime in.

the plastic tubes are the difference, they're supposed to be different sizes.

since the aftermarket unit lacks the tubes, it can have one # to cover both.
personally I wouldn't try to reuse my old ones as plastic becomes brittle when subject to heat and age (11 years and 180F+ temps = easily broken blastic I'd think)
just my .02

Not asking for flame here, just trying to learn and not have to look it up. What is the purpose of the Heater Core and is it supposed to look yellowish/orange as it did in the pics?

the heater core transfers heat into the passenger cabin. whenever you engage the heater on your dash, warm air is blown from the vents. this heat is transfered to the air through the core. the core is heated by engine coolant that passes through it.

so, can you purchase these plastic tubes seperatly, and how much do they cost? Is it possible to maybe just use some other sort of tubing that could be found at a local Home Depot?

It is. Considering the job hours [dash R/R] & to fix a Home Depot prototype fifth time, I would not try to "save" on this...

ColombianMax: "...What is the purpose...?

Check out the details from http://www.cardomain.com/ride/748507/8 AND http://www.cardomain.com/ride/748507/7:

That appears to be the million dollar question.
I'm willing to bet they are unavailable seperate from the heater core but, I can't check that theory until tomorrow (dealers are closed on sunday)
