tranny really getting bad

well just about every time it is cold my first gear slips going into second..this is what it does......when shifting fron first to second, it takes asecopnd or two, in the meantime i can floor it and rev it really high and the RPM's will just rise, kinda like it is in neutral, but it doesnt slam into 2nd........only when cold at a stop light the car starts bucking kinda like it was a stick and i didnt push the clutch in at a stop light. and almost stalls, one day it did stall. so i am gonna start looking at the 5spd conversion........what exactly would i need from a 5 spd car. master cylinder, clutch pdal, ETC. i need EVERYTHING for a stick

Best bet is to find a donor car or see if any local junkyards have a 5-speed maxima and buy it from them.

i have a VG, would a VE 5spd work without modification??? probably not, but it dont hurt to ask

all the maximas in the junk yard have over 150k.....mot have 180k or more, well that is just the one place
there was one VE, but the motor was all torn up. i can also get the tranny from a 1989-1994 SE or GXE right, so any 3rd gen tranny will fit in my 1991 SE?

yea, and if you get a VE 5speed, its even better as it has the VSLD. you just need the axles and hub carreries as well.

I have learned one thing from my max before I sent it off to the junkyard. Mileage means nothing if the car was well taken car of. My engine had 241k and never gave me one issue. My tranny well I went through three. One of them had 87k miles and I even saw the car being pulled in by a wrecker as it was rear ended badly. And I checked the mileage. That tranny lasted me 10k miles. I dogged it. But it was also an auto.

All 3rd gens have the same bolt patterns meaning they are all compatible. VE's you have to replace the hubs and axels as the VG's are too smal.

What would another tranny help in tHere?

You will return to TPS, why not start from it. You will return to oxidized connections, why not start from it?

Wiking is trying to point you to check your Throttle Positioning Sensor, and connections. Hes saying check these first, as he believes they are causing some problems now. Otherwise you may throw in another tranny, have new issues stemming from the new trannys own gremlins and also may still have your stalling issue to figure out. Check your TPS and connections, so you can rule those out. Then throw in a new tranny and work out any gremlins with it. 1 thing at a time.

I strongly suggest getting a complete donor car......this will make it ten times easier.....

The junkyard is not the place to buy a parts car.... if you know i mean....Best place to buy is a from a private owner....

Do u ever read what is written? If u have electronics problem, changing gas tank will never help. Neither swapping tires, tranny, engine, lamps etcetc...

This time for TPS click on http://www.cardomain.com/ride/748507/6

For other electronics issues, read all pages:
