PLEASE HELP!!! New radio crashed my max

I successfully installed my radio on to the four speakers and amps. GREAT! As I begin to place it back into the dash board, my engine starts to sputter...and it shuts off! I must admit that I tried to force the radio in. I took the radio out the dash, and nothing. I did a voltage check from the battery, to the starter, to the fuse box... make a long story short, I don;t know what happened or how but the car started, and after a few shut off and ons (for good luck) I placed the radio back in the dash, and once again, my car died. This time nothing seems to bring it back from the coma. All the dash lights come on, but the car just doesnt want to start. All the fuses are intact. no burned wire. My guess is that somewhere, in the middle of forcing the radio in the dash I severed a very important wire. I just can't seem to find it.
I took my car to nissan for some rewiring due to a major error on my part. That error cost me $3000. Nissan is not an option. What you think?
Thanks

No not at all. I installed it while the engine was shut off. It installed. I turned the engine on, and everything was great! The problem began when I finally installed the radio, and shut the engine off. From there on it wouldn't start, until I removed the radio, tinkered with the wires back there...and by miracle the car started. installed the radio and again, the car refused to start. There's current going into the car, it just doesn't start. Oh, and no fuses are blown.

Disconnecting the battery has absolutely nothing to do with this situation..
The ECU and other important engine controls are under the dash down there. I would guess that you either cut a wire or unplugged a connector on either your ECU or somthing else important down there..
first thing I would do is pull all the plastic trim panels off down there, get a flashlight, and look around.
then if that doesn't work, get doen there with a flashlight and have someone else stick the radio in the hole for you while you're watching behind the deck.. see what wires move when you shove the head unit in, and follow each and every one until you find the problem.
good luck.

I think you're on the money with this one! I've been looking for the unit and I can't seem to find it. I took the dash off and all I see is wires and wires. No major unit, or at least what I think it should look like. I traced the voltages with an ohm meter and current drops off when it returns to the fuses in the engine. I've been asking around, and people look at me as if I'm crazy. Most feel the problem is between the battery and the starter. So far you make lots of sense.
Thank you.
Thank you.

Wow, I've been hearing a lot of problems from people putting aftermarket headunits into their Maxima's. Now I feel very lucky to have installed my headunit myself without any mechanical problem at all.(How it fit into the car was another story in itself) Anyways for some reason aftermarket headunit have those metal clips off to the side where it won't fit the slot of the dash board. I kinda rigged mine to fit it and now it's not even screwed in...oh well. Well now i'm paranoid to even take the dash apart again, so what i do when i have to do something to the back of the headunit is take apart my glove compartment and do stuff from there.
