A newbie in what? In this forum?? So I can't speak now for that? If you made a mistake It's not my fault. I own my Nissan Maxima since 2002, that's 4 years so it's more than you....
If you say you don't care much about gxe's don't waste your time talking about them.
How is the thing, I can't give my opinion because I have a GXE and you a SE. I didn't know this was an SE-only-forum

And I don't have a gxe, is a mixture like the ones in australia

Annapolis MD. proud owner of a 3rd gen and a 4th gen. 3rd gen is for sale though. all my money is goin to the 4th gen now. I loved the 3rd gen, and she's got a lot of life left (1992, with 116k) so hopefully she'll be good for somene else.

New To The Maxima Experience

I am a british expat living in Brunei (south east asia).

I just bought myself a 1989 Maxima less than a week ago. I am loving it.

Needs a lot of work, though. How you you repair the handbrake switch? The handbrake light is stuck on - even when the handbake is off so far that I can push the car when it is in Neutral. Other than that, great car - lots of fun weavign in and out of all the sloooooow 4x4s.

Thanks. They just have. The car is in the shop now with a leaking ABS motor. New ABS etc.. is very expensive (more than I paid for the car) and would take weeks to arrive in Brunei. The mechanic is going to by-pass the system, so I will have just normal brakes. Considering the cost of parts out here and the difficulty in getting hold of model-specific parts, it is wise for me to mod the car to a simpler format. (My wife's car needed new hinges for the bonnet (hood), after nearly a year of waiting for the part to arrive, I cancelled the order and mended them myself.)

I'm on the map. I live though in G3 capital: Memphis TN!

Not only my 2, but also: One around the corner, two up the block, amd one a street over, and this is just the start. 2 more in my company packing lot. 2 at the dealership, where I take my cars for service. Last time at the dealership, was talking with another couble that also had 2 G3s.

On any given day, I see at least 6 on the road, and I do not mean the same 6. I even seen in the last 2 weeks, 4 G3 with NEW TAG plates (ie bought from dealership and waiting for real plates to arrive).

These are not beater cars - though I seen those here too, most are in great shape, with middle age drivers, like these are their cars for years.

Hello Everybody! I guess a little late but here I go: I Live in Orange County CA, I bought My Maxima 2 years ago and I fell in love with it. It's basically stock because unfortunately i'm not a guru on mechanics but definitely want to add some mods. I Hope I can learn and help as possible and share experiences about our beloved cars. She's a Charcoal 1990 SE with VG30E, I'll upload some pictures later.

My Max has 237000 & cruising...
But, it has electrical problems.
I change the alternator every other year.
The door locks work only intermittenly.
If I don't change the alt regularly, the battery goes dead.
I've been told that I may have a short somewhere, but am afraid or don't know where to begin...
I do not do my own repairs, but can generally follow tech talk.
You know the old routine, re: wasting money on an old car & who best to rely on to diagnose the prob?
BTW, I live in Nyack, NY, some 25 miles NW of NYC.
Thanks for all your help.
I love my Maxima!!

Hi, I bought an 89 Maxima mid-November just as a starter car, but have fallen in love with it! It's silver and at only 137 K, I think I got a hellova deal. Only minor problems, electrical and old hoses, but I want to learn how to work on it myself, thus joining the board to learn what I can. I've never done anything like this, but I love this car, and think I'll enjoy working on it. I am totally oblivious to tech-talk, so does anyone have a link to help me learn some basics? I'm a total n00b at this!

Bought my 93 GXE about a year ago with only 98K miles (wow!)
I was surpised by the get up and go this thing has... I LOVE IT!
So far, other than regular maintenance (oil, filters, brake pads & tires)
I have only had to replace the 'speed sensor' which was $80 and a simple DIY project.
The car started shaking last night on the road and I found this site tonight while doing the research on possible causes and solutions. I find out tommorrow whether the wheel bearings and/or ball joints need to be replaced. Wish me luck... Oh, and 'Hi everyone!'

Problems with my 93 maxima!!!!

I went to the brake shop today to have my drums checked out. I found out that my drums are cracked, there is 25% life left on my shoes, and I need new cylinders cause the old ones are leaky. This is gonna cost me around $350.

Is this an easy job to do? Or should I have the pro's handle this one? I am pretty handy when it comes to repairs. Any ideas where I can get these parts really cheap? Maybe you have some suggestions on better replacement parts.

HELP!!!!!

you can do it yourself fairly easily.
Do you want cheap parts or good parts?
Cheap parts, goto autoblown 5-10 times and you'll eventually get the right cheap part.

I want some good parts.

I really love my car and I want to "hook-it-up", but that ain't gonna happen right now. My rule of thumb is if I need to replace parts, replace them with upgrades or the best part possible- within my budget.

Just tacked myself on, noticed I'm not the only one from Kings Park! We've got quite a few 3G's around but its such a small town I doubted someone else from KP would be on the org

I've got a 92 white SE that isn't in the best shape of its life, but has been on its way up since I got my hands on it a little less than a year ago.

5spd

INTRAX / TOKICO / ST Sways / Stillen FSTB / Stillen shifter / MOMO handle / ROTA(17lbs) on KHUMOs / Slotted Rotors / Complete Kenwood DSP+Alpine+ORION custom systm / WSP CAI+Y+B pipe / STILLEN front CHIN / HELLA driving lights / I even had an 86' TURBO Z scoop added(not in pic) that rammed cold air onto the CAI piping / OPTIMA battery / 9mm racing wires.

OH well. I drive a 350Z now and am looking for a black 5spd, 92-94, to drive daily.
