Power Steering pressure hose replacement

Does anyone have a suggestion on removal of the lower bolt holding the P/S pressure hose on? It is in a very awkard location (on my '90 SE anyway). I have almost convinced myself I need to drop the passenger side axel to access the 24mm bolt. Any advice?

Mike

I just did this last month. There is no need to drop the passenger side axel. To locate the lower bolt all I did was feel around for the it for a few minutes when I was under the car. Once I found it I just slapped socket on it and got it right off. It helps to have a pair of disposable gloves. be sure to have something to catch the fluid in. Quite a bit will leak out when you remove the old hose.

It was the upper one that was the pain. It kept flexing all over

24mm wrench and go to town with it. Very simple. Good luck. Replace the copper gaskets underneath the banjo bolts.

No chit, The bottom was cake for me too. Babysitting the freaking bracket on the top banjo nut thing was a biatch. That bracket just isnt meant for ANY kind of tension, it was bending like a damn paperclip

Thanks everyone for the input. After 3 trips to Lowes/Autozone for various wrenches/sockets, I ended up using a ratcheting 15/16 wrench. The only other option I could see would work would be a "stubby" box wrench. There is simply not enough room to get a 1/8 turn with a standard box wrench between the axel and center frame member (see picture). There is also only 1-3/4" between the 24mm bolt and the center engine mount (see pic 2) - not enough to get a socket and wrench on it (at least not mine). It's done now nonetheless.

After bending the heck out of the top bracket without getting the bolt loose at all, I used an electric impact wrench and that did the trick no problem- and without bending. Try it.

Locking a wrench on, and a good couple quick waps with a hammer works too.

Try driving it around for a while, turning the wheel lock to lock whenever possible...take your fluid with you so you can top it off....
