Fuel Gage is reading 1/4 less than it should!!?? HELP!

Hi Guys my fuel gauge is not reading completly full when i fill it all the way up it only reads 3/4. I tore the back seat out and am trying to measure resistance of the fuel gauge sender unit but I am not sure what all the wires are for (which ones are for the fuel gauge)

If anyone has any info. for me please post thanks!!!!!!!!!!!

Bend the floater arm to get the reading u want. Like in toilet water reservoir to save water...

Fuel gauge reading is one of the weird max things. Sometimes its real (gas guzzling b/c zillion things that may go wrong), smtimes it just wants u happy for a moment.

in order to remove the fuel pump do you need to drop the tank or just remove the rear seat?

I have my rear seats out and I see two yellow wires and one blue and red striped wire the other two are ground and 12v. Where do I connect my ohm meter To get the reading It is supposed to be 1230 ohms full and 1327 empty. I tested the two yellow wires with my ohm meter and I got a reading of 4.72 K Ohms. BUT I DONT KNOW IF I DID THE READING RIGHT BECAUSE I DONT KNOW WHAT WIRES TO HOOK MY OHM METER TO. (I was just kind of fidling with things I thought it could be!)

Thanks for any and all help

(I'm trying to wrap this project up today if possible!)

Take the fuel pump/sending unit out and check the area of the pic provided for a bad spot or bad connection with the silver area...

carry a gas can with you, drive your car till you run out of gas
take your gauge cluster out, and take the plastic cover off, adjust the gas gauge to where u want it when u run out of gas.

That's what I was gonna say.. the other stuff seems overkill as it appears to be just a physical problem with the needle. Especially if the gauge consistently reads 3/4 tank instead of full, it points to the gauge just being a 1/4 'off'. Now if the gauge reading varies a whole bunch (from say 1/4 to 1/2 tank) when full then that would be a different story

Maxima Man.. if I were you.. I'd just fill up and then move the needle up to the F line (or wherever you want it for that matter)

Be careful with static electricity messing with your fuel gauge cluster and also be careful to not press the needle in, as it may become "stucK" in that position and need to be pryed out with a fork. You want to avoid prying that needle if you can.
When you're done tinkering with the cluster, wipe it down with an antistatic wipe just in case.

Yes I filled it up just now and then I moved the fuel gauge to the full mark so it is ready to go but I don't know if it will work in the long run yet (I really hope it works though)

It is so depressing to fill up your gas thank and then hop in the car and see 3/4 of a tank.

Has anyone actually done this and have it work in the long run?

Thanks for all the help!!

When and under what circumstances the problem has started?
I know the Max fuel gauge is not the champion in precision. I once messed up my original sending unit and got a new installed. It totally changed the pattern: I used to get solid amber light and E reading when the tank would accept 65 liters, but that happens with only 56 liters now with the new one... Go figure.

Hey all, haven't been on in a while , and was backreading posts, my Max has the same problem it is filled to the top which is usually a depressing 40+ when near empty and it only will show 3\4th fill. So what is the best solution to fix this problem?

Many solutions, who may say which is best? I would ignore this nuance after checking wiring for oxidation. Next I'd bend the floater arm in the tank, under 1hr job. Going at the gauge, u risk jamming the gauge and/or creatin other problems.

I moved the needle to full when the tank was full and it crept back down where it was before on the first trip!

Any other ideas
