HEEEEEEELP tranny drain pug!!!

well, ive just been in the garage for 4 hrs trying to figure out how the hell to get this plug out. every time i try a large screw driver it just slips out. i even got a jack and pushed the screw driver up onto the plug then tried turning it with an adjustable wrench. that just stipped it more ........

help me out. anyone else ever have this problem?

i was thinking of just drilling it out and retapping

There is a set of extractors you can get that fit on the outside of bolts/nuts made by snap-op and they work unbeleiavbly well.

Maybe try a chisel, get a good bite into it and try to spin it out

is this an auto or manual? I'm not sure about the auto, but on the manual, use your regular 3/4 ratchet, it will fit snuggly.

You are trying at the wrong place, i made the same mistake, the drain plug is right by the pass side axle, can someone show him a pic from the FSM, (i've seen it on here before), BTW the filler plug need a 1/2 ratchet, not a 3/4 ratchet.

It's a manual....the drain plug is a 1/2 in ratchet in the front of the tranny, just to the right (as you face the car) and below the slave cylinder...it is a screw with no head, that simply has a 1/2 square hole for the ratchet.

The FILL plug is a 1/2" female ratchet. The drain plug is near the rear of the tranny and is a metric bolt. Sheesh.

the part you're trying to remove is one of the check ball holders. remove that and your transmission falls apart from the inside.

fortunately, you can't remove that thing without pulling the case off and removing a locking pin going through the tranny case.

next time, read the manual before attempting to do stuff like this.

umm yeah... that's a check ball and spring. that keeps the tranny from goign into two gears at once. it's possible you can/will lock the tranny into two gears and royally **** the thing up.
better get that tranny off and take it apart and find out where those two guys came from.

If you put the thing back in and the tranny still shifts fine, (I hope you put the ball in before the spring!), then you will be okay.. if the tranny didn't want to shift or had a problem, then that's when you have issues.

yes, you should be fine.

I'm going to guess the one you removed was for 5th gear and reverse. it's on the front of the tranny not too far from where the fill plug should be.. the other two are farther away from it

i dont know if you were talking to me about the one i took out but, the one i took out was on the rear of the tranny because i thought it was opposite of the fill plug for some reason but this was a while ago. I just didnt think that the drain plug would be so darn close to the shift linkage and crossmember

Ummm so if one were to have removed that and well if the ball and spring fell out, should one say just insert ball then spring back into tranny??

If you did that and didn't drive the car or shift the tranny, then you should be fine. put the check ball and spring back in and THEN see if the tranny shifts through all gears okay. if it does, then you should be okay. If it doesn't, then you're going to have to pull the tranny and separate the case, realign everything, then reassemble.
