Jumpy Speedometer?
My friends 89 max is having a wierd speedo issue. When in park at idle and warming up sometimes the speedo is at 15mph, other times when driving it is bouncing around.
Anybody expierience this?
Coil?
speedo cable?
Is it ran off the distributor on this car?
Thanks
Jason

There is no gear going into the cluster, the speedo is electronically driven - no cables, just wires. The only gear is on the speed sensor, which is driven by (and located on top of) the transmission. Mine is still messed up, but I haven't tried working on it in a while. I replaced both the gear on the sensor as well as the sensor itself, but the problem persists. I think in my case that I had a bad sensor, which ruined my cluster. I had replaced the gear twice and even replaced the cluster. With the new cluster in, it worked fine for the first 1000 miles or so and then went crazy again. By the time I got a new speed sensor, I think the damage was done. I have yet another cluster to try, just hasn't been that high on the 'to do' list. I've been driving this car for a while now w/ no speedo, but I know my speed by the tach.
