Inner wheel wells
Inner wheel wells
Well, I've thought about it, and realised I would rather weld a good inner wheel well on my car, instead of taking it to the $tealership and having it written off (see rust-recall posts). Anyone ever had this done before? I would like to know how difficult it is before I start this project.
Also needed for sure then is the fuel filler tube, and whatever parts are needed to stop the rust. Has anyone made the attempt?
I think all it takes for the wheel well is an angle grinder and a person with a welder...but some of you might know better.

Here's what I did with my 89 rust issue. I took it to a welding guy and has given my Max a brand new lease on life! welded the 2 wheelhouses along with its inner panel, the rack base (went to a junk yard and got one from a difunct maxima), and both rear passenger seats for... $700!
I love my Maxima... is an extremely reliable engine, with a great looking design. I'll keep it for as long as I can. My next task will be to sound proof it.

remove the back seat. There you will see how bad the rust is. In my case, the wheels were clearly exposed from the inside of the car (I always wondered why was my cabin so loud?). So, the welding was done from within the car's cabin. I didn't do it but I saw how the guy did it.
The rust problem on the max was so bad that if god forbid I got a flat, the car just couldn't be lifted via standard jackup.

well, here's the thing. I have to go to another city to get the parts. I'm not going to weld it myself, but I will need to get the parts myself. As such, Something needs to be done to get the car parts, and the only way I think this is possible is for myself to do it. A little help on this would definatly be appreciated though.
