another wonderful problem

well i got everythign wired up (dont know if it is right) and i tried starting my car......the starter just spins really fast.... not grabbing onto anything..... so i measure the distances between the starter and the flywheel and the teeth of the starter and the teeth for the flywheel are about an inch off..... (i have VG flywheel with VE trans....so either i am screwed.....or i can change the bell housings from my VG trans to my VE trans.. if i cannot do this i am basically screwed!!!!! any ideas???? are the VG/VE transmission bell housings interchangable (the housing that covers the torque converter and what the starters bolt to) HELP.......again

they should be the same starter, IIRC.

make sure the starter bendix is engaging properly- sounds to me like its not.

VE manual and all VG starters are the same, I'd go with what Matt says

you can bench test that. just get a battery two leads and touch them to the posts on the starter. if it jumps out and spins its ok.

the VG/ VE auto starters are different.. they even mount in differnt places...... the starter does work correctly..... i just might go all out and put the VE motor in it...... it will save mne alot of hassle since it should just bolt up to the motor mounts........ i know i have to change wires/plugs.....what would be involved in changing my VG into a VE??? i dont care how long it will take..i just want it working.......i would need the motor (duh), computer, air intake, what about a radiator and what about motor mounts?????? im getting tired of this not hooking up... if i put he VE motor in it... the wiring harnesses to the motor/tranny will match up.......ill just have the change the wires to the motor.....i havent seen a write up in the stickies for the VE swap

just get all the wire that runs from the engine to ecu, it runs along the drivers side fender for one place. You essentially need everything engine related.

you sound like your almost done. Id just finish the tranny swap

the VG auto starter is different than the VE auto it is even mounted in a different place... plus i got rid of the VG starter because of the core charge..........alex_v...........i had everything done, but the starter didnt catch the teeth of the flywheel...for some reason so i might just get the other motor, to solve this flywheel problem since i cannot really do anything with the starter thingy....plus i will have 30 more horses!!!! so is there a writeup with this VG motor-VE motor swap???

the swap is just a matter of pulling assemblies and wiring harnesses.
don't forget the y-pipe needs to be swapped and the mounts.
Sounds harder than it is.
but if you don't have an engine hoist , don't try it.

it's also much easier/cheaper to buy one that is a VE to start with.

VE5/VG starter:

VE A/T starter:

so much for my theory of trying the VG starter

yeah i knew they were different......i think that is what i am gonna do.....since the motor and tranny only have 69k on it...mine has unknown......that extra 30 horses tempts me and the 69k miles is good....since the motor is only $200 and the tranny was $50 that is a good deal right??????
