SOHC Cold-Air Intake?

I know Cattman offers one for the SOHC and are asking about $200, which isn't too bad.

Anyone know of any others and HP/torgue gains?

I need a new 3" filter and I might actually put a whole intake system in this time. Tell me what you think...

i purchased one there too, your gonna haveta prolly fork up the extra loot for the TRUE cold air one cause the pop3-g one in the engine bay is out of stock, but if you want you dont have to drill the hole like i did and just put the filter after the maf extension anyway... i personally didnt notice @%#$ but it sounded nice lol.... if you willing to spend 200 bucks to get a nice sound/eye candy for engine bay, then go for it.
i might be biased though cause mines in a place that looks starved for air, but then again it cant be more starved than the factory unit that was right there

Search around because you can buy a honda accord intake if its from the right year, and they go for next to nothing on ebay.

with that said about the 93 accords, does it matter if its an EX or LX or DX and can you get, say, the injen or greddy CAI if theyre interchangable?

At Autozone we have a "Make it yourself" riceboy cold air intake kit for about 70 bucks. Whats the difference between this no name brand and a more wll know on such as K&N or AEM?

The CAI does offer gains, but it is not something you are going to feel as a stand alone mod. Especially if it's your first mod. It does sound nice though. You have to look as a CAI as only one link in the bolt-on chain.
A y-pipe is something you'll feel gains with right away. I'd put my $200 there first.
Having said that, if your not going to install the Cattman CAI as intended (by drilling through the fender wall), don't waste your money on it. Just get a cheapie off eBay as others suggested.

Jeff92se/MrGone designed CAI is IMHO better than the Cattman. Our sit higher, is located in a much drier place and is located in a much CLEANER place. Ever clean a Cattman type cai filter? Rocks/dirt/leaves in the element is not my engine's idea of a good time.

With most intakes you are paying for the name. If you are VG you can easily buy a no name honda intake for eBay and save over 140 and buy a good filter since those foam filters are garbage. Or you can pay 200 for an intake and say you got it solely because it's the name. You will not see that 10 hp from the intake as claimed but you will see that from the y-pipe that you actually will pay for design.

speaking of y-pipes, my 3" came loose from the rear header because the muffler shop i went to today wouldnt weld the headers, and since then, the rear worked loose.

do you recommend welding or bolting?

ive been bolting with some cheap bolts (obviously why they are coming loose), but id rather it all be welded nice and tight; of course, the problem with that is that ill have a lot of problems taking the headers off if i ever need any engine work done, or need to replace the y-pipe.

i but i sure as hell dont want the exhaust to keep rattling my floorboard and tearing **** loose...so which do you recommend?

welding really doesn't seem like a good idea to me, i'd say invest in some exhaust studs from your dealer and be done with it. plus i think the rear manifold would be very akward to weld (tig welding no way). i've never heard of anyone having those loosen up and bang around...are those just the stock ones from the original ypipe? and not to mention if you ever need to pull the y-pipe your looking at a tricky task to get it off.

no, this is a set of 3" headers and y-pipe; others have claimed to have received no hp gain from these, but ive noticed a drastic gain in torque since in installed them; been too afraid to push the speed too high since theyre just bolted on with ****ty 7/16ths bolts; probably not high grade, but im going to pay someone else to do it right since i actually have the money now

well i'm glad to hear that the headers showed you some gains, but i still say welding seems a bit drastic. tacking it up would break off and a full weld job all the way around would just be overkill, buy some studs from nissan and be done with it, plus if it ever comes time to sell the car you may want to sell off the mods and then your looking at more work in cutting off those welds.

i was going to tell you that buying those studs and putting them on yourself would save you time and $$ but i see your in terre haute and if its anything like the west lafayette i left last week you probably dont want to be in a cold garage anymore than you have to be.

Yeah I know - I have have the half Cattman/half Mr.G CAI in my VG.
My point was that if you only intend to go half way with the install (mounting it in essentitally the same location as the current intake and leaving the second pipe out), then one shouldn't waste the money on getting the brand name.

my garage is cold, but im going to see if my grandmas stays warm; it needs done one way or another asap.

as for the cai, i drilled a hole in the fender wall to create a vacuum/get cold air flowing with the 3" filter connected to the stock intake tube.
