Power Steering Removal

Power Steering Removal
I don't really need power steering, and I do know how to remove it, however it runs off of the same belt as the water pump, so besides rigging up some pulleys where the power steering belongs, do you guys have any other viable ideas? Thanks

An Accord has an aluminum 4-cylinder engine (light). Maxima has an iron-block V6 engine (heavy). Tires are wider too.
Trust me, you don't want to take the power steering off the Maxima.
If you don't have a warpspeed Y-pipe, install it. That will take off some weight and also help your engine rev a bit better.

try driving a 66 elcamino with a small block and no power anything (steering, brakes, windows, locks) of course it did have power underhood
oh and the tires on it were wider than the max's

While I have driven the maxima with no power steering, its nothing like a civic or eclipse with no power steering. Although I dont recomend this for the lazy or puny-armed, simply find a smaller belt that eliminates the power steering pump. I dont remember the exact size, but just grab a string and wrap it around the two pullys. Mark it, and measure the length. Then swing by your local auto parts store and find a belt of the proper length.

I had to drive a bit woithout powersteering. Belt broke, so I used a pair of nylon pantyhoes (dont ask why they were in the car....) to run the waterpump so I could make it into the nearest town. Easy on the highway, but manuvering in a small lot was not fun.
