When I have the car in gear and moving, I can hear the transmission whining literally. I thought it was the p/s pump, but the wining goes away once I push the clutch in or have it out of gear but with the shifter pushed to the left or right (as if I was to go into 1-2 or 5-R). I had the trans fluid changed when I did my clutch about 8 months ago.

Maybe the trans fluid is low? Whats the best way to check the fluid level?

The input shaft bearing is going out....Common problem with the maxima manual tranny.....

to check the fluid level remove the fill plug and stick your finger in there and if you feel fluid your proboly fine but if you dont low and even if you fill it back up the damage is already done

how many miles are on your trans

Alright, I know how to pull a tranny out.

My next question is what is involved in a tranny rebuild and what special tools will I need if any?
