Greetings

I was posting a few threads with questions not long ago on these forums. I thank everyone for the help.

I have a nother question now; On a 1991 Maxima - how hard is it to change the engine? Anyone try it yet?

But more directly - i was wondering for those of you that have tried it - can the engine come out the top - or does it have to drop out the bottom

What else is involved?

Thanks in advance :

Rob

When you say change and engine, do you mean just put a new/rebuilt one in of the same type, or do you mean CHANGE engines- like to a different type?

If you just want to install a rebuilt one or something, it's not that bad.. jsut unhook all the wires and hoses, pull the axles out, and drop it out from the bottom. you can remove it from the top, but it'll be much easier to take it out from the bottom- IF you can get the car that far off the ground.

Well it's relatively easy as FWD cars go. You drop it from the bottom. It's nice becuase all of the suspension pieces are out of the way and there is only one x-member to deal with.

Now does that make it easy for you?? Well it's easy for me becuase I have dropped my engine once and dropped 5-sp trannies about 4 times. Easy for you?? Depends how good you are. It requires time, patience and some above average mechanical skills. If you can replace a clutch on a 5-sp, you can "probably" do this. If you can't do a clutch job, take it to a mechanic.

Thank You for you're response -

Do you know if it's possible to pull the engine from the top - or otherwise any idea's on how to get the car up high enough - and catch the engine from the bottom since i don't have a car hoist?

On a different thought if i wanted to do it myself - if the car was on a hoist - how long do you think it would take to just drop one engine and stick the other one in - and then worry about the connections and stuff after...?

thanks again

I'll will be very honest with you. Please do not take this as a flame of any sort.

Judging by your questions, I have to honestly say you have never done this type of work nor do you own a Nissan owner's manual. These are two pretty important things to have in order to tackle this project.

Time is not really a factor here. The most important things are can do HANDLE this type of work and do you have the proper tools. Examining this thread I have to say "no" to both.

I mean I can do this probably in 3-4 hours if I have my brother handy. For a first timer, it might take all day(if at all) How am I honestly supposed to be able to judge how it will take if I have no idea how good of a mechanic you are??

Why don't you make VERY clear what you are trying to accomplish and then maybe we can steer you in the right direction. We are already going in circles here.
