254xxx miles and now the car is at its last breath

well i went to go wash my car today and noticed it had no power what so ever and a ticking noise under the hood no not the VTCs

came home popped the hood and pulled both valve covers off
saw that my rear timing chain has been grinding against something

since i have got the car in peices
what should i get and where

my timing chain tensioner is sticking soo thats 55 bucks
my timing chain is bad now another 23 bucks

figured i would replace the oil pump, water pump and some other stuff

i need some help on what i should get to get my car running better

i will try to get pictures tomorrow

thanks

Kyle Cisneros

edit: i know a guy that is selling his VE for 300 bucks with 170k on the motor
might end up buying that and freshen it up

yall are not helping me here

Rebuild the VTCs while you're at it

Just thought I'll add this in VG30DE pistons, Total Seal rings, and ARP rod bolts.

be sure to replace the idler pulleys for the timing chains too. they run on a copper bearing/bushing that's lubed by oil. when that thing wears out, it causes the timing chain to get out of alignment and rub on stuff.. probably the cause of your problems.

replace everything on the front end of the engine.. all three chains, bearings, idlers, tensioners, etc. rebuild VTCs or replace.

If the compression is good on the engine, don't bother tearing it down unless you have signs of metal shavings in the engine. might want to pull a cuple of the cam bearing caps and look for any scratching there. it's a quick and easy way to tell if there's any major damage in the engine. if it hasn't hurt them, then the rest of the engine should be okay. just be sure to flush out all the oil gallies you can while you have the front end apart.

IIRC, my motor has ~145k on it. Is this type of maintenance something I need to worry about right now?

The oil pump isn't easy to get at, so I'd scratch that one off Unless someone knows otherwise.

Are you looking to fully rebuild or just get it going again?

well since the top of my motor is open

i figured we would replace the oil pump any way
chains and tensioners have to be replaces sooo it wouldnt matter how hard it would be

just wish there was an easier way to get to the oil pump

thanks

i will get pictures soon of the rebuild

See how quickly this just jumped from thinking ahead for preventative maintenance to total rebuild?
