whatever you do make sure its GL-4 fluid. and ive noticed that switching to 75-90w redline manual tran fluid makes a giant difference...

you can buy penzoil sycromesh at the zone for 6$ a quart which is half what GM dealers get and ive read on several ocasions GM buys the stuff from penzoil and renames it, i run it in both my trucks and they shift much better then with the recomended ATF but im not sure if id run in in a max since it could be thinner than 75w90

the fluids section has a good stickie about manual trans. oil.
I'll be trying Redline MT-90 soon, as i have a leaky axle seal to change.

Yes. 5spd = no dipstick. You drain and fill through the same hole. It is the bolt with a 1/2" wide indentation on it. Just use a 1/2" drive ratchet to take it loose. You only need to worry about your fluid level when refilling it. Also, I suspect that severly worn transmission mounts could cause you grinding issues as well.

Actually, the drain hole and fill hole are separate....
