Why I hate the winter...
Ok so now the Axles are FINALLY done. Working till 4 or 5 PM with no lighting for later, and having at least half of the weekend taken by football / hockey / or the Fiancee, this has taken forever!! Thanks to thoes of you who helped with advice or with the part, ( thanks for the Ball!).
After checking both ends for the propel double threads and size:http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d3...G_0241_1_1.jpg
both ends

Here is the part# for Carquest

The first axle I got had a 28 mm nut that barely held on this is how the right one should look http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d3...G_0245_1_1.jpg
Now the hub is comming back from the machine shop getting a new wheel bearing pressed in. Lesson there, be gentle with the air hammer.

Yes, both CV joints were going pretty bad, so what the heck I'll do it and save $$. Well I did but damn the time. Just MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE RIGHT PARTS!!! Oh and when you drain the tranny, use the drain plug, not the plug holding in the 5th/R check ball & spring. Nothing like watching a little metal ball go bouncing down the driveway into oblivion.

I still have your check ball boxed up ready to go...

the hardest part is those 3 bolts holding the passenger axle bearing carrier. You just need a selection of extensions, and a u-joint would be beneficial. Other than that, it takes like 15 minutes per side. The 3 bolts may take another 15-20. The driver side is really easy. Just undo the 2 bolts holding the strut to the knuckle, undo the axle nut, and pull it out.

since you are replacing the passenger axle... when i did it i used a pry bar and a hammer..... but i also took the y-piip off.. it gave me lots more room... there is 3 17MM bolts that hold the strut to the knuckle..... you DONT have to take the steering control arm off! the axle nut is a 36 MM nut... make sure you have a nice breaker bar and a nice pipe on the end of it.. they are really on there.. make usre you hold the end of the wrench with one hand and PULL up with the other so you dont snap the head of the wrench off.. trust me i did it... but it was craftsman.. if you need any help PM me

My bearing was froze, all it took was 1 second with an air hammer . Tap tap tap zing and off it was. Damn parts was the only sticking point.

I think you gotta be pretty handy with a wrench to do it in about 2 hours. but I suppose experience teaches alot. I did the right transaxle about a month ago and lazily decided to put off the other side (where the boot was not yet torn) until the spring (yeah, I like warmer weather). unfortunately I noticed todays that the left transaxle (driver side) is now torn with the grease all over. I have a '90 auto maxima that I just purchased about 2 months ago. does anyone know, do I need to drain the tranny fluid for the left side like I did for the right side? also is it a pure pain in the butt like the right one was. I'm okay with taking the knuckle off and the hub nut. I just remember sittin under the car for over an hour using a wrench in the trickiest of spots to make 2 inch wide turns until I got some bolts loosened and then retightened afterwards. does the left side just pry off with a screwdriver or is it also bolted?

The left axle will pull right out, no intermediate bolts.

Theres a guide to all this here:

It's not that difficult as long as you have a good set of tools to do it with. If those axles haven't been apart for a while there's a good chance you'll be fighting to get the bolts off. And as someone else said above, the passenger side axle is a PITA if you dont have the proper tools.
