ventilation tubes on E36 lights

anybody know if the ventilation rubber tube thingies are important for the E36 lights they come with? Cause I lost both of mine. Would they contribute to the fogging up of the lenses? Cause that has happened to me, and I'm thinking it's cause I had removed both tubes. But logically, I don't know why that would cause that, cause it's leaving the hole exposed as opposed to being covered with the tube, so you would think removing the tube would decrease the fogging up of the lenses. Oh well, can somebody help? Thanks.

I removed the rubber boots from mine the day I got them. No fogging here. Search on fogging e36, there are a few threads out there. Sounds more like the seal around the light may be bad.

The tube is only meant to prevent water runoff from gettinginside the headlights. If the holes are still there, they will still vent... I made mine sealed... and forgot the redrill, i get fog sometimes. Another thing to add to the to do list.
