Filled up a bit past half a tank.

Fuel light still coming on. Starts off dim at ignition, over a minute and it gets bright. WTF.

anyone know if this annoyance will disappear eventually?

 

never heard of such a thing...

just be happy that the fuel system on the max is a very accessible thing compared to other vehicles...

but back to ur problem....

ok...so with 1/2 tank of fuel, ur fuel light is getting elevated voltage as if the float is low....and a minute or so later, it's getting full voltage as if the float is really low....

so i suppose the next place to look is the thing which sends the voltage to the light.....being either the sender or the float

just guessing here

 

it fixed itself this morning...slowly became dim and then non existant again; awkward....!

it was a good day in general; sunny and 55-60 degrees here in TH.

 

it happened exactly as you decribed to my fathers 97 J30. i never knew what caused it.

it may come back again.

 

When this happened, was the gauge still working?
