Hello guys,
whenever the car is cold it runs ok..as soon as it warms up though it kind of starts "cutting out"(it's like you push the gas and nothing happens). Of course my mpg's are awful and I am sure it's because of that. I changed my plugs, wires and water temp sensor but the problem is still there. I did some research around here and the next thing that I'll try is the crank position sensor. I hope this solves it but we'll see...Any other ideas? I am 99% sure that it's electrical(sensor) but...thanks in advance...

p.s.
also, the car idles around 550rmp which is too low...

p.s.s.
the problem ismore noticable at lower rpms. Ay high rpms it's not as bad but i can still feel the huge loss of power.

you can get the codes using the On-Board Diagnostic. remove the plastic piece by the front passengers left foot. with the key in the "on" position but with engine not running, turn the little screw that is next to a LED. i believe that you turn it all the way clockwise, wait 2 sec. and then turn it all the way counter-closckwise. your check engine light will start flashing the codes. the fsm should have the codes listed.

****ing maximas...****...****...disaster...
well, from my years of experience dealing with 3rd gen(mine) I should have seen this coming. I changed my oil yesterday and when I started the car it was missing really bad on cylinder 3 and 5. Just like that guys...all of a sudden...before the car was running smooth(now not even close) but it was stalling kind of and it just didn't seem like injectors. Well, now I can deff. tell that this is my problem...The only good thing that happened yesterday is that my speedometer is working again(it was cutting out before). Also, for the last 2-3 days the car has developed an irritating exhaust leak from my NEW WSP y-pipe....WTF...does it ever end. I wonder-is there a 3rd gen in the world that runs with zero problems. There is always something...always...but why do i keep trying....whhhyyyyyy

It is a 15 year old car anyway...
A friend of mine has gone through two trannis and one motor for his even newer Honda. Another got his 96 Toyota camery engine replaced at only 60K due to renowned Toyota engine sludge problem.
Two of my injectors died at 100K, the rest 4 died at 180K. Not too terrible.
Good luck fixing yours.

The exhaust leak is probably due to you shearing an exhaust manifold stud when you were trying to wrench the original y-pipe bolts off...Same thing with my car.

are you sure? are all the windows working? The bose still playing good?clock?

My goal is to make my car perfect and as stock as possible which is not that far away-2 injectors:crank seal, valve cover gaskets, bose radio, and three wind regs. After all this I know I'll have one of the best 3rd gen maximas here..

I feel you on making it perfect, but what's the fun in leaving it stock? The mod bug bit me...and it STINGS (my bank account)!!!

i understand what you mean...my 89 maxima had some upgrades on it and on of my ex ve's has some as well. Both cars were nice but after I bought my current one(it was running good at the time) I was shocked-the car was soooo silent when moving plus everything stock in the interior just made me apriciate even more the engineering put into it. Plus, there aren't too many mods without side effects:Y-pipe(bees in the can), UPD(lower voltage), intake(noise and no noticable go) and so on...After putting a lot of money into it, it's still not fast(vg in mind). I don't know if I am getting old but for me it's simply not worthed anymore. I'd rather take my money and put it into maintanance and may be a new paint job plus some extra sound deading...Another example that comes to mind-aftermarket stereo. Ok, I know it may sound a little nicer, but the gap between the hu and the trip drives me crazy and it looks not in place...a $100 Bose double din plus $.50 to fix the capacitors in the amps is a much more atractive option to me...anyways, this sunday I'll put many hours fixing up the mechanics so hopefuly everything will nicely runing once and for all...(yeah,right _

fuel just flowing in rather than the injector controling it

Sorry to post in your thread about something else but I couldnt start my own. I guess I need a certain # of posts to be able to do that

Someone please explain the $.50 to fix the capaciters in the amps repair.

Has anyone had any luck in having their injectors repaired or is a rebuild not an option on these things?

Thanks,
George

If you need injectors and don't want to throw down the cash for new ones, check the for sale section. There's alway someone hawking injectors or coil packs...

DON'T get rebuilt injectors for these cars. the failure rate is over 50%!
spend the money on new if you can, if not try to get a set of moderate mileage used ones and use them
