trunk centerpeice

anyone ever tried to drill holes into it and put lightbulbs in and make it light up, has anyone been successfull, is it possible? i was kinda thinking of drilling holes into the back putting like 3 red bolbs(or white since the caseing is red) in the top and maybe 3 or 4 small white ones in the white area so the maxima part stands out, and wiring it to the headlights?
any comments upon this idea?

wouldnt do it if I were you. Puttin bUlbs in there will look kind of funny I think because you couldnt light up the entire panel correctly I dont think.

If you had a spare you could try it but I wouldnt do something like that on your existing center section.

it has been done, but due to lack of a reflector panel in there it came out like crap.

that said, 2 words: Donate, search.
it's been within the last 2.5 years (ug, I've been here that long)

CCFL...do it.

paint the car first...then worry about modding the other stuff around it.

what is CCFL? my car is being painted within the next week or 2, im about to finish off sanding the primer down to make the car look like glass >.< , i know there was like switchable backplates for the 280zx; which is kinda how i got this idea, my dad showed me a picture of his, with the lightup 280zx on it in the middle. i think it would be kinda cool.

i have a spare 89-91 centerpiece I pulled off my car, on my spare time I'm gonna "experiment" with it and see if I can do anything with it...perhaps I'll take it to work and work on it when its slow since we have plenty of tools that can come in handy

In my own opinion, I'd say it's too much work for very little end outcome. To get it to light up equally across the entire panel, you'll have to replace the inner panel with a reflective pannel. And even then I think you'll run into some clearence issues trying to fit bulbs into the panel as it's not very thick.

I think this is why most people either leave it alone, ditch it and pannel it in, or paint over it. That being said, there's nothing that can't be done right? It all depends on how much time and effort you want to put into it for what little you'll get as an end result.

well if I'm im bored enough I think anythings possible. I wont be in a hurry to finish...I dont really care if it work or not but it'd be nice to have something that actually looks good made by yourself. I'm gonna start on it next week. If I successfully light everything evenly or at least uneven but yet nice lookin I'll do a write up for those who care about it. If I never bring it up again I either forgot about the "experiment" or I gave up on it lol

i was gonna try that on mine, well buy an extra, pull it apart, and put little red L.E.D. lights just along the words, so just that lights up, kinda like another brake light, asked the local cops and they said it was legal as long as it didn't stay really bright the entire time, like if it dimmed and got bright when braking
