Here's another how-to, from the 4dsc.com site: http://www.4dsc.com/articles/exterio..._antenna.shtml

One thing to keep in mind is that the needle-nose pliers it says to use for loosening the nut may not work, which is what happened in my case. Vice grips over a rag may work better.

on the last car I did a mast replacement on, I had to pull the assembly out and manually wind some of the teeth on the bench and power it there.
no fun at all.
at least I had the antenna nut tool

I've replaced just the antenna mast. Here's basically what I did - power ON the radio, as the antenna approached maximum extension, pull the antenna up and out of the shaft (it may take a little force).
Remember which direction the teeth were facing.

Move the collar that holds the antenna in place from the old antenna to the new one.

Insert the new antenna into the shaft as far as it will go and have someone turn the radio OFF. The new antenna mast should feed right in.

Hope this helps...

thanks guys...I had to pull the antenna motor to get
the piece that broke inside it. took about 1.5 hours
and a six of budlight, but it was well worth it when
the antenna went down flush.... d.w.

Wish I would have seen this thread a few weeks back. The internal plastic zip cord on mine broke, and I wasn't sure about the top-collar/inner thread mechanism at base of mast. Nice post !!
