Surging/ Fluxuating idle !!!
Like the title says my 89 max has a fluxuating idle.
Knowns:
It idles at 1500rpms when first started (when cold) 5 min drops to 1000rpms
When cold It runs smooth
When warmed up the idle drops from 900 to 500 and the back and fourth.
I can push up on the bottom of the EGR valve when cold with my finger and it will simulate the idle fluxuation when hot.
I think It might have something to do with the EGR valve?
(B.T.W. 89 maxima SE VG )
Whats new:
vacum hoses
fuel filter
air filter (K&N)
Cleaned IVAC
Cleaned throttle body
operating fuel injectors
plugs
cap rotor
wires
I really need your help with this problem it has been going on for too long Please help and contribute!!:attention
Thanks Guys !!

Maybe your EGR got stuck open. Try take it out and clean it nicely.
You could also have an air leak somewhere in the intake. Did you use new gaskets when doing IACV and throttle body cleaning? There is nothing a little liquid gasket can't fix on that.

Hoses are new didn't seem to have this prob before hose change
Vans I am not sure about the intake manidfold gasket I would have to take it apart to tell (P.S. You can't get the intake cleaner spray in every crevice of the gasket to check for leaks!!) (cus I know thats what you will say)

I know you said you checked all the hoses but I would bet that (If you're lucky) somewhere in the new hoses are your problem i.e. hose not on all the way, missing hose, hose plug into wrong spot, ect. I'd say take your time and recheck the engine to make sure everything is where it should be with any luck you'll find something. As for being able to press the EGR valve and change the idle thats a normal function so I don't think that is your problem.
As for the leaks a fog machine is the best way to go about finding them but noone usually has one of those lying around.

I'll add some guesses.
- throttle position sensor
- bad MAF
- faulty/corroded fuel injector "plugs" (from the harness)
and off topic sort of... it's 'fluctuating', not fluxuating.
Though, I guess on that DeLorean from Back to the Future it could be Fluxuating. lol.
Hope something here helps. Good luck!

I'd wait for the stars to be in proper alingment and it will all straighten out. your car is probably a gemini :-D all kidding aside, I had a very similiar problem.. was a simple vac line that had a very small, almost invisible crack in it. I jut replaced it and BAM, no more idle fluctuation.

I think I will try the fog machine trick to see if I have a vacum leak somewhere.....................I just put the fog into the intake correct?
I hope I just left a hose off but I prob won't be that lucky!
Could my EGR valve be leaking vacum?
