Burning smell from engine compartment

'sup fellas. I was driving home tonight and my brake and battery light came on...I drove for a little over 2 miles
the car drove fine with the lights on. when I got home I popped the hood and smelled a wire burning smell. I got back in the car and started it, the car started fine and kept running. Is it my alternator that going bad? I just change late last year.

Do a recent headlight change maybe put in the wrong bulbs? If your car doesn't start in the morning id guess a wire got stripped from vibration and is creating a short. Their's also the alternator test- turn on the car and disconnect i think the negative and see if the car stay's running.

problem fixed. it turns out that the positive battery cable had a short on it. it has a ring connector that goes on the battery terminal and a dual box shaped connector that attaches to the ring connector. On the box conn. there are two wires, well one of those wires had a short in it and it wasn't sending constant power to the car's accessories. I went to the junk yard got a wire in good condition and.....she's purring like a kitten. thanks for your help fellas.
