Over $1k to fix a dent in the door.

I'm glad I don't have to pay for it.
My wife was chatting with her friend on the sidewalk when her friend's landlord backs across the street and into her car (my 91GXE) parked nearby putting a big dent in the driver's side rear door. The landlord was really upset and apologetic and offered to pay for the damage if we gave her an estimate.
I got the estimate today and it's $1,030 to replace the bent panel and repaint the door. This body shop uses new Nissan parts only. Supposedly, it would have been more if the car wasn't flat black. He told me that Metallic/pearl paint is harder to match, so they'd paint the entire side of the car to ensure a uniform look to the paint.

You can say that again. I guess if the place is really good, then like new your car will be!
Hmmm, do the regulators need looking at while they are doing the door?

They're screwing her, even if they're putting on a new door- unless the door costs more than $500.
they should be able to just replace the door skin and repaint, instead of replacing the whole door- but that depends on the severity of the damage.
paint shouldn't cost over $300 for just one door- even if they do have to fade and color match it.

New rear door = $350
Paint for door = $300
-------
Total $650
Maybe the other $350 is for dinner at Spago's.

sounds okay to me..
My friends moms Taurus got a rear door dented in and scratched, also the rear fender caught some beating along with the front door.. The fender and front doors were repaired seperately with some touch up paint but the rear door came to around 900$... My friends Camry took some beating too because it was standing right in front of the Taurus.. his estimate came to around 400$ though... Anyways, what I am saying is the Taurus with a messed up door cost nearly 900$ including labor, parts etc.. I suppose.. It was a damn Home Depot truck, he scratched an Expedition in front of my friends Camry as well probably got fired

Matt/superdesi,
Are you guys figuring in labor? I could scan the estimate and post it if you want but the parts/supplies for the repair (outer door panel, trim, paint, clearcoat, etc.) only come to about $338 and the rest is for labor. I'm sure that labor rates vary from state to state (I'm in NJ). The estimate states $40/hour. How would that compare in your state?
