I have a leak that is coming through the plastic core which houses the blower motor. I want to take off the whole assembly/heater core/plastic housing. So far I have the glove box off and bottom part of dash. Do I have to take the entire dash off, or just the bottom?

Any info/procedures would be really helpful. Thanks.

 

Is the leak water, from say outside or is it antifreeze?

 

Definitely water, it's dripping from straight up over the blower motor. But it looks like I'll have to take out the whole housing to get in behind to see where exactly the leak is to fix it. I'm hoping I won't have to take the whole dash apart.

Nope, ac is off. I removed the blower motor, and the only place water is at is behind the blower motor, which is rusted around the lip, and I can see the water dripping from up top, under the dash, up high, but I can't see the source. That's why I have to take the whole assembly out to see where it's coming from. I was just wondering if anyone knew if I had to take the whole dash out to take out the heater core/blower plastic assembly.

Have you tried taking off the black cover at the base of the windshield, behind and under the hood where the wipers come out? You may be able to find the leak there. The heater/AC air comes from there and especially pine needles pass right through the plastic grill.

 

Thanks, that's exactly where the leak was coming from. The seal between the plastic cover/windshield was coming off, and no doubt letting water in. Seems like a weird design to have something so small cause so much water to come into the cabin, which goes right into the intake where the blower motor is.
