Changing a Front Door

Has anyone on here ever changed a front door. What is the easiest way to unhook the wires that run through the grommet. Unhook from inside the door or from inside the car and run them that way.

I know one way is easier and I thoguht I would ask before trying it myself.

Thanks

pull the wiring out from the door. you're better off in dealing w/ the wiring in the door than under the dash.

For sure. Unplug everything on the door. Make sure you get Brand new hinges. It'll be worth it to change them now, then droopy doors later.

There's a plug inside the firewall/fender/kickpanel, but I don't know if it's just one plug for the entire door or not. it might be worth checking out before you rip it all apart, but I don't THINK it comes out that way.

I think you do have to disconnect everything in the door then wrestle the harness through the grommet at the front edge of the door. in either case, it would be easiest to remove the front fender and gain easier access to the door hinges and the harness. it's 20-30 min to remove the fender to save a lot of scraped knuckles and cursing while trying to get it out while working through a (insert childish body orifice joke here).

Already got the doors all apart, just have toi pull the wiring out. That is how i noticed.. took the panel off to deaden and the door is pretty rusty inside and getting weak, cannot tell form the outside at all that it is rusted.

OH well the door on my 92 is in prim shape so only take my time

I've had my driver door off several times in the past. There are 3 connections in the kickpanel area. Unbolt the door, then pop the rubber gromet free that goes into the car. Then pull the harness connectors through the hole. You may have to wiggle the big one through, but it does fit. Now unplug them and remove your door. (having a helper would be nice - to hold the door as you get the wires disconnected and through the hole)

Check my site - pg. 3, last pic - you can see the 3 connections hanging out.
