need serious help!

I was going to change the brake pads on my car this morning. I completed the drivers side no problem. I then went to the passenger side to take the lugs off. I started with the lock nut and it broke around the ring. It would'nt grab the threads and I tried and tried to get it off. I then went to a tire store and they said 10$ and they could do it,but after 20 mins of trying they to could'nt get it. I then drive home where I try to chisle it off enough to bang a socket on it,but no luck there either. Now it's at the point where the key design is still there but the sides are chisled down to ridges. Anyone know how I can fix this? cause I'm out of ideas here

it's got a 1/4" shank with a thick washer,so I dont know it that will work.
Heres what I"m going to try tuesday. I'm going to sears and getting that socket
with the nails that forms to the nut,and also a 12 point 19 mm socket and try
to hammer it on.

Sounds like that lock is doing its job a little to well..I am not sure what u r left with (pics would help) but maybe a set of Nut Extractors..you pick the one closest to ur size nut and pound it on with a hammer then put your 3/8 drive on it and back it off. Worked excellent on rusted bolts not sure if would help on your application ..good luck.

when i bought my sonoma a while ago it had lock lugs on it and no key. used an air chisle to cut a groove in it and then used a hand chaisle and hammer to knock it the rest of the way off

My mechanic used a special socket with "teeth" that he hammered on my Gorilla locks, they spun right off. I think it may be what Governer is talking about.

get a chisel and a hammer, put the chisel in an upward direction to loosen the lock.....and try to spin it off that way, or just try to break it i half..... it seems like that lock is on there really tight.. just make sure you dont mess up the threads on the stud!!

I'd rather have locks, than no wheels !!!!!!!!!!

just a thought, I know you guys would not want to come back to your car and find it on bricks.

I had a lock break on me a long time ago, after the car went to the dealer.

The tech must of pounded the wheels nuts and the lock with an air gun.

next time around, when I was trying to take the wheel off, those things were on so tight that the lock split off the end.

The dealer corrected it, but now what I do, before it goes in any shop, I take the locks off and keep em at home.

when I get the car back I put the locks on finger tight and only turn them another 1/4 turn or so.

My old mechanic told me, that always tell shops to use torque wrenches rather than air guns.....

But you all know how that goes, when no one's around they pound em with the air guns !!!!

a thread was bad on one of the 5 lug studs on my front passenger side when i bought my car...always had trouble putting the wheel on and getting it off.

after having walmart patch one of my 17's, i noticed a slapping sound coming from the bottom of my car. i believed that my bolt on exhaust and headers had came apart, but the next day, when i was going to get the exhaust welded, i raced a durango to a stop light and took a hard left...as the light turned green, by car revved and went nowhere....i heard a terrible grinding...

to my surprise, the wheel had broke off all 5 studs and was leaning on the inside fender wall, keeping the front end from eating the asphalt

and of course the durango sat behind me like i was going somewhere..lol
