My 93GXE now has rear discs! :)
After 16 hours of disassembling, fitting, cursing, moving, prying, bending, cursing, rolling on the driveway in the rain, cursing, driving 100 miles in the rain, cursing, fitting, cursing, throwing half a dozen struts around my garage at 2am, cursing, drilling holes in hard steel, did I mention cursing?
Here's why..
<img src=http://www.ee.utulsa.edu/~mblehm/pics/hands.jpg>
but oh well.. they're done! roads are too wet to find out how they will perform compared to stock.. It hasn't rained here in 100 days, and it's rained almost non-stop since Friday afternoon! (Of course, I washed my car for the first time in a month on friday... started raining an hour later)

Nope.. Not unless you count the time when a strut fell on my hand because Kaleb and I were too busy cursing ad each other, trying to tell the other how to unscrew a bolt!
total damage: $135+ 1 tank of gas and Dinner for Kaleb. (that adds $100- and gas is cheap around here!
you can probably get it all for less than that if you go to the right boneyard. one place wanted $300+ for it all, tried charging me $100 for each caliper...
another place asked $50/side for entire strut/brake assembly and said he'd throw in a swaybar (to beat your "helper" instead of just curse at him non-stop!)..
when I got there, one caliper was missing and I called off the deal.. I should have jsut bought it all there and bought a reman caliper somewhere else. oh well.. hindsight.

Thats great that the install was finally done. My car needs the same swap. I was wondering if you could leave a list of all of the parts that you had to get from the junkyard to get the job done. Also wondering if by now you have been able to test them and see if they helped out. I know just about anything would improve the performance of my brakes.

i had this same problem. the carbon metallic pads the dealer put on squeeked like a sob. I replaced them with some rather expensive organic pads (name slips my mind right now). brake fade is worse after 4-5 real hard stops(i drive on a lot of hills), but it doesn't squeek as bad...

lucky me, my GXE has 4 wheel disc brakes. Wish the rear ones would stop squeeking though. Got the car with aftermarket pads -=T.

4 wheel disc
who said they have 4 wheel disc? Was it stock like that? I have 91 GXE what brakes I got? I dont wanna go through the whole conversion for disc if I dotn have them...but either way what are some good replace brakes/prices?
GXE models without ABS have drum brakes in the back.. They look like this:

GXE models with ABS and all SE models have disc brakes in the back.. they look like this:

If you have a GXE without ABS, then you have drum brakes (unless your car is a Canada-spec.. in that case I'm not sure. I've heard some canada-spec GXEs have discs without ABS).

Is the site up that has the conversion info yet? I'd really like to know what it takes to change over my crappy drums. Thanks

Kaleb looks like he's working on something.. he's got a page of pics and thumbnails up already.. check matt92SE's 3rd gen board for the link (I'm lazy, sorry)..
I'm also leaving work in jsut a few minutes.. I've got some errands to run and when I get done I'll get to work on the page.
