Help! Oil Light only on U turn.

Horrible day. While driving TEMP. needle shoots up to HOT. Let it cool down. Drive a couple blocks shoots up again. Saw the antifreeze reserve filling up but not getting sucked back up. Only when i let the car cool off. Drove like this for an hour and a half filling the radiator once till i got home. Changed thermostat and 50/50 antifreeze (good hour).Car sounds good. No knocking or nothing.Just belts squeaking from the antifreeze.Drove the car and left it on for a good 1/2 hour.Doesnt heat up. Nothing. Quiet like it was.

But noticed while i make a U turn the OIL light comes on and back off when i finished making the U turn. What the hell happen?

did you check your oil level? I know my oil light comes on briefly upon start up this one time when the oil level was much lower than it should be.

It's probably a faulty oil pressure switch..

The switch activates the light when it senses no oil in it's proximity

Changed the oil today ,OIL light doesnt turn on no more.Really did a job on my motor that stuck thermostat.Burnt my oil.I think 1 more mile and i would've blown the motor.

My thermostat that i took out says NISSAN on it plus it says 89 on the side.
Could that be original? Like for 18 years? How often must you change your thermostat?

you're SUPPOSED to replace it every couple of years.
most people don't until it either causes the car to overheat or causes a lack of heat

If you live in a semi warm to warm climate, just take the thermostat out and you'll not have to worry bout changing it Just hope it never gets cold out!

Hope all is well with the car!

The problem with that practice is your ecu will stay in open loop[cold cycle] too long...This will add up to decreased fuel mileage and possibly engine damage over long term...
