Fan Belt

I was quoted about $430 to replace the alternator and "fan belt" on my '93 VG Max.

I understand how to replace the alternator, so I'll probably do that myself. I've looked everywhere, including this forum, and cannot find any diagrams telling me where this mysterious "fan belt" is.

According to Hayes there are three belts, on the alternator, for the power steering and for I think the AC or something else.

Where is the fan belt and does it perhaps go by another name???

Yea.. theres no "fan Belt".. and $430 to have the belts replace, Is rediculous.

The hardest part in doing the belts is.. getting that Stupid plastic sheild off the bottom without breaking any bolts. Unless your in a non rust area.

The belts are fairly easy to change out,if you can replace injectors, this will be easy in comparison....

Here is a little diagram to help..

That's $430 for belts AND alternator.

Thanks for the diagram! If it wasn't 110 degrees outside I might have done it myself. The three belts are like $50, alternator is like $100 - $200 so, whatever...

trust me DIY. The alty can be a pain, but to avoid that stick a smaller bolt in the drivers side top bolt hole then thread the passengers side top bolt in, then drivers side, then the bottom bolt. It took me about 40 minuets taking 2 5 min breaks inside to cool off. Id just pull in some shade or under a tree in your lawn or something.

The closest thing any FWD car will have to a "fan belt" is eletrical wires running to eletric fans.

Gotcha... That makes more sense. The wording confused me
