Need more power.

I've been tryin to figure out what mods would be a nice inprovement for my car once, i got new control arms and axles out of the way.

I was wondering how much a 2.5" exhaust all the way back would open up some power. Also, underdrive Pulleys. And Place Racing Intake. What would be the power gain for these upgrades.

Also i was wondering if i should just stick with the vg30e and go ahead and swap in a 5sp tranny. or go for a ve30de engine with an auto tranny(just til i have the funds for a 5speed tranny n money for the swap)

And Im buyin an rear disk conversion from a fellow org member.

Im wanting to buy a fstb, rstb, fsb, and rsb, sprint springs, and koni adjustable shocks.

thanks for any feedback.

Best mod IMHO is the Warpspeed Y-pipe. many others will agree.
It is very hard to swap in a VE engine into your car, if thats what ur plannin on doing. If you get a maxima with a VE, it will already have rear discs, so you can save some time/moeny there.

Or if you get a 5spd in your VG+y-pipe, I think it will be comparable (speed wise) with a VE auto...anyone agree/disagree

Look for a VE 5spd... then you'll have it all. 190hp, rear discs, and a manual tranny

i want a ve already 5speed. but if i got a new car it would make me feel like a quiter and giving up on what i have. And it would offend my parents very much since they bought the car for me not to long ago(1 month ago).

i beat my friend steves 5 speed altima(98-01 body style) up until 70mph from dead stop(note: my completely deteriorated bushing in my control arms are throwing off my alignment at time when i dont accel smoothly). if i had a 5speed i would have left him in the dust. only reason i beat him that long is cuz he sorta missed 2nd and he has some 17's n im sure they arent lightweight. he has an intake i believe full exhaust.

i am ordering my axles and control arms hopefully this weekend.

READ THE F'ing STICKIES, ITS ALL THERE!!!

BTW the VG is good for ~500-600HP easy. you MUST tune it RIGHT.

The VG is a freaking ROCK, but the tranny will never hold up to that. And Alex, about the tuning, that is good advice for any turbo application, thanks for including that.

Oh and yeah, there is a TON of info in the stickies, read every last post on the turbo upgrade. Every question you will think of is answered there, from what exhaust manifold to use, to which turbine size is right for your application.

ok. so i read that sticky. but i kinda get it but not clearly.

OK. U can swap a VE5 tranny onto a VG engine. But U cant put an automatic VE tranny on to a VG. Correct or not.

The basic engine block is the same for both the VE and VG, so yes the tranny will bolt up to the engine, but thats not all...

Power of google
http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=378646

Although the VE auto is built better then the VG IIRC, I would just get a 5spd and be done with tranny issues.

The auto VE trans will bolt up to the VG but the starter is different as well as the position and mounting of it so it will not engage the flexplate of the VG and since the VE and VG have a different bolt pattern on the end of the crank you cant use the VE flexplate on the VG.

Th only really restrictive part of the exhaust is the stock y-pipe...Replace it with the warpspeed aftermarket y-pipe...

You may be able to feel it in the butt dyno. maybe +10hp at the wheels. I think it does sound much better, although it would be nice to get someone who has installed one to chime in...

VG is an engine family, not a specific motor.
the VG family has an assortment of displacements and uses
http://www.answers.com/topic/nissan-vg-engine

in this Forum, refernce to "VG" is refering to a VG30E. Which is a Single overhead cam motor with no turbo.

the 89-94 GXE model had the VG30E as does the 89-91 SE.

Now go read the stickies

Try and save yourself some trouble and look for a VE-5. They're out there, just kinda tought to track down. Then you can have your "fun" max, and your driver max.

cant afford insurance on two car. or i would already have a fun car. 1989 mazda rx7. which i would have to get a new motor n tranny. TURBO motor. but i am on a 6 an hour pay rate and cant afford it rite now. if i get a job at Kroger at 7.10 an hour maybe i can afford two cars and get that rx7 and have a daily car and fun car. but until then im sticking with this.

my insurance dropped 100 bucks every six months when I added my second (Turbo) Maxima cause it has an airbag and ABS. Get the a VE5, they are so much nicer than VG5's it's really not funny.

Yes there are plenty of quick maximas on here and no your car DOES NOT weigh 4100 lbs (unless you have ALOT of **** in it).

door jamb is basically how much the car would weigh fully loaded so to speak. subtract roughly 200 lbs for each passenger that's not in there and you'll get close to the weight of the vehicle. So, if it says 4100 multply 5 with 200 to get 1000, subtract 4100 with 1000 to 3100, which is roughly the correct curb weight. That's how I was told to do it.

I turbocharged my Maxima... its not really fast to me but quicker than a lot of cars out there. Its a blast to drive, that's for sure.

The printout from my vehicle inspection says 3146 lbs. Not sure if that's me in it, but if so, then about 3,000 without me.

I went through what you're going through now (had a 92GXE before my VE5). I wouldn't put sooo much money into it. Luckily I was able to sell my mods....and then buy new ones for my VE! Y-pipe and UDP pulley are great. You can advance your timing too, but you have to run 93 octane which is expensive now. I retarded my timing due to gas prices a year ago. Obviously turbo is for those hard-core guys and props to them.

3100 is the approximate weight of our cars.

Quick is a relative term.
Can I out launch a stang? Yes.
Can I out launch a Vette? not likely
Can I out run the police?
Can I pass a gas station more often than the vette or stang? Probably
