Car A/C smell

Car A/C smell
I was driving the other day. As we were hot I cut the A/C on. I smelling like a fish smell. Then I let it run longer with the windows down to help the smell completely get out the car. It didn't. Now I am just asking where does the smell come from and how can I get it away.

I just spray the Lysol into the vents while its not on and it will take the bad smell out. Lysol, Fabreeze, or something like that. I cant stand the smell and when a girl got into my car i couldnt even keep the A/C on. So I need a easy remedy.

This method worked for me for a few weeks. Buy some Ozium at teh local parts store. Park you car. Let it idle with the heat on full blast. Yes, the heat. Spray it liberally in the fresh air intake by the hood and windshield. Keep windows closed and allow heater to run for a good 5-10 minutes.
Important Safety Note: Ventilate the car before getting back in for any period of time.
Good luck.

I had the same problem. It's better now, but not gone. You can remove the glove box, and behind it is an oval metal plate on the heater ducts behind it with two screws. This is the blower resistor unit. Carefully remove it (don't break the resistor coils behind) and you can access the a/c coils behind it. The hole is small, but with some creativity ( shop vac with small attachments, small light on a stalk) you can clean out the a/c area that's filled with pine needles, leaves, dead rodents, etc. that will help the smell. You can then buy some a/c cleaner or spray the a/c coils inside with an a/c cleaner you can get from NAPA or make a deoderant from a 1% solution of bleach (don't get on fabric). I made a cleaner like this, put a plastic sheet over floor and glove box opening and sprayed the coils, let it sit. Don't over fill the coil or it will leak on the carpet. This helped a lot.

Ya, my dad's Nissan truck had the EXACT (Fish) smell with the AC on, or even just vents on with no AC. It happened to be some rotten leaves stuck in the Blower. Maybe that is where the problem lies. Also, don't fear taking the glove box apart, its trivial, and pretty much self explanitory. Good Luck!
