hmmm I dont remember that and I have been on here a while. I posted some pics of my trunk set up which was not springs but struts (hood struts). I used them because I had an SE and when I put a GXE trunk on it would fly open when you opened the trunk because it was missing the extra weight of the spoiler.

I just took the springs out and put the struts in...I never did a write up on it though so you must be talking about something else.

here are my pics though.

Strut1

Strut2

Strut number

and here is a video of it opening (with alarm trunk pop)...right click save as please.

Sorry if thats not what you are looking for though.

I have no idea. I know it lacks opening the trunk fully by maybe a couple of inches but it opens it enough (as you can see from the video)

Do both ends of the strut mount pivot ?

If I found a strut that extended 2 more inches would the trunk open completly?

Thanks

Yes both ends pivot.

If you want to do this mod like I did take my data and use it. If you want to do something else try it out...I have no idea how a different strut will work. I am sure if you get the exact perfect size it will open all the way but I dont know what that size is.

Why do you need it to open more though? The only reason i can think of is if you are going to carry a big box in there and if thats the case just un hook the struts and tie the box down...you would have to tie it down anyway so it doesnt fall out.

I know that if you arent careful and go to long with the strut then your trunk might not close or might not open as much because of where it has to be located on the trunk arm.

Unfortunately anything you want to do custom from my set up will have to be trial and error on your part.

If you find something else that works then feel free to share it with the rest of us like I did here.

also a measurement might not help anyway (I cant give you one because I cant remember where I put my struts after I took them out of the car before I trashed it) because struts are funny and you will see what I mean when you start looking. Some long struts have a long body but a short opening arm. It is rare that you find a strut that has about the same opening length as the body. Good luck.
