buying car in Indiana but michigan resident

Don't flame me. I posted once a similar question. but now it is specific.
I am looking at car in indiana to be registered in Michigan.
After I buy the car should I get a temperory (paper plate) while I drive it here ... or nothing is required other than title or bill of sale....??

I don't want to be caught in the freeway by indiana cops..
Any inputs experiences ..???

just drive it, you have a grace period after you buy a car to register it and everything. i drove my pearl vg for a year before i went to register it and transfer the title. they didn't charge me a fine or anything although they probably should have. if you get pulled over, tell them you just purchased it, show them the signed over title and proof of current insurance and you're good to go. it turns out that here in OR, you're exempt from even being charged a late transfer fee when dealing with an out of state car.

In Oregon, I think you are supposed to have 30 days to get everything squared away. I guess Hectic likes to push his luck

You can call your local DMV and ask them. I would be fairly confident that if you buy a car and you have a bill of sale dated that day or even a couple of days old, along with a signed over title, you won't have any problems, unless the current tags were expired and the cop was an a-hole.

I drove mine from California to Indiana when I got it with no problems. is he going to let you keep the plates on? Just don't give them a reason to pull you over.

heh, yeah basically i just waited until my tags were out of date so i could do it all in one shot. ended up turning into a huge ordeal because when i finally did it, i had forgot to tell them that i had got into the accident and the car was totalled out. this all happened in the same day but she assured me that we could do the vin inspection and she could merge the paperwork so my new title would come back branded which it didn't. so then i ended up getting a letter saying i needed to buy yet another title because they got word that the car was totalled. i had to do alot of pleading and borderline arguing with the unhelpful dmv clerks. finally i spoke to a manager, explained the entire situation and she was nice enough to waive the new title fee.

Hectic, didn't they see the date on the title when they pulled you over or did you just leave it blank? ( that's what I did )

I know in illinois you need what is called a "Drive away" permit when you buy a car here in illinois and want to drive it to another state before registering it.
of course you could just drive with the title and bill of sale with the hopes of not getting pulled over by someone with a grudge.
if you have plates you can take with those are also a good idea.
Every state will be different, call indiana and ask
