5spd tranny trouble

ok let me try to explain this. how about the car doesnt move when i put it in 1st gear, it just pops out of gear when i goto accelerate, or it wont move at all and the rpms go up. i have to hold the shifter in first gear for it to go. my friend said it had something to do with the synchro (sp) or something like that. is it this or something else? also how $$ is this gonna cost to get fixed

It's possibly a synchro, yes... Whatever it is, it's going to require a rebuild of the tranny to fix- which will be aboue $600 on the low end, well over $1500 on the high end.
start saving your pennies.

is it really that much to fix a manual tranny, i thought it was alot cheaper to fix a manual then auto. I hope its not more then a 1,000 if it is,its really worth not getting fixed the car value isnt that much higher then that
