Dancing Speedo

Hey Guys,

Im having some problems with my speedometer, it doesnt display the right speed most of the time, but every now and then it will work for extended periods, a day, a week etc.

If i take the dash apart and disconnect the speedo and reconnect it, it works for a lil while and then starts dancing all over the place aswell. Also driving over bumps or potholes tends to make it either start or stop working again, or vary the amount of dancing it does.

I was wondering where the sensor is in the engine bay for the speedo. I remember someone saying that its in there, i just have no idea what or where it is.

Any help would be appreciated, cheers guys

I would say it's the instrument cluster itself, not the sensor..

Hit up your local junkyard,or the classifieds section here for a replacement...

its just funny that if i take it apart it works for a while and then starts to dance again. I have another maxima in the area that is being parted so i can grab another gauge cluster, but i want to check the sensor first.. That said.

Do you know where abouts the sensor is? Can you access it from the top of the engine bay.

Dancing speedo This is what it does. Its a really crap movie from my phone, but the car is in the driveway, in park.

My first VE cluster was the same way with the RPM gauge and it would also work and stop once in a while...what I did was go back to the junkyard where I got it and got a warranty exchange for another one and BAM it works perfectly.

Its most likely the connection like it was on mine, also you can try making sure all the lil screws in the back of the cluster are tight, that might have something to do with it.

If you need a cluster let me know..I can get you one for a good price shipped overnight or 2 days

most of these issues will be with the cluster because a intermittent prob is usually electrical. My gas gauge only worked when the dang thing wanted, hit the junkyard and got a white faced gauge cluster for $25 and now it all works perfectly and I got the whites

Amen to that. Cheapest and easiest solution on that issue.
