Stalling when the motor is cold

Hey guy's a newbie to Maxima.org.

Got a question my wifes 92 stalls every now & again while she is driving, and most times it's before the motor is at full operation temps.

I had the Alt & Bat load tested and all is good the bat was showing about 1/2 the CCA's, and I just replaced it a few days ago, new fuel filter, spark plugs,

Any Ideas? I spoke with the stealership and they say possible CPS, IAC Valve etc, but they wat $120.00 to pull the codes $$$ I could use on other things, so I'm hoping you folks could point me in the right direction.

I was kinda suprised that a 92 has a CPS, the CPS on my Ford Stroker is very well known for going out so much most fokls carry an extra in the glove box.

Thanks in advance
Rich

Is it se or a gxe?

I could be a bad coolant temp sensor or a dirty/malfunctioning iacv...

How long has it been since your last tune up?

Oh man I think she is an SE? The motor is a DOHC. As for the last tune up. I did the plugs, fuel filter about 6 months ago when I change out the oil sending unit. If there is more to a tune up please let me know.

Well you could replace the coolant temp sensor if you got about $20,and take the iacv off, clean it and see if that helps..

My mass air flow sensor died about 4-5 months ago,it would barely idle [200-300 rpm]and would die frequently..But this was not an occasional problem like yours,it done it all the time, cold or warm...

There are many possibilities for this stall problem. People have had problems with the MAF, vacuum leaks, bad injectors, etc. When I had this problem it turned out to be a weak Fuel Pump relay (mounted in rear of trunk), even though it tested fine.

Cleaning the IAC would be a good place to start. We had a lot of trouble with it in cold weather on my dad's F150. Just pop it off and clean it with some throttle body cleaner. A way to check would be to turn the adjustment screw on it to see if it does anything to the idle. Although I'm not familiar with the VE IACV location/ if it has the adjustment screw.

Its basically directly under the throttle body. Its got two solenoids sticking out of it, four rubber tubes, one of which goes up to the air intake bellows and hooks up to the rear side of it. There are four nuts that hold it on and you'll have to pull off the metal fuel line pipes supported by the upper bolts (you may have to disconnect the fuel lines). Save the gasket and note how it goes on, as you will have to make a new one or buy a new one and put it on in the correct orientation.
