Apparently cold temperature fixes things !

Hello everyone,

Well for about 6 months now I have had a non-working temp gauge in my car. After trying to figure out the problem and testing the thermostat and other things I decided to give up on it and leave it as is for the winter, since I knew that my heating system was working perfectly. Pleople on this forum have tried to help me out to find out what could be wrong and I thank you for that but I decided for now to do nothing.

I live in Quebec so the winter is f...ing cold. Last night it was about -45 degrees celsius which is -49 degree Fahrenheit. The block heater was on all night and after letting warm up my car for about 10 minutes this morning, I get in my car and noticed that my temp gauge is working !

Let me tell ya, I am puzzled about that one. Anyhow, I am happy that it is fixed for now and hope it stays the way it is !

Just thought I would share this rather weird experience !

Maybe someone has experienced, in the past, free fixes like mine !

I am waiting for your stories !

I'm sorry but I'm pretty sure -45 degrees celsius is not -49 degree Fahrenheit
theres gotta be more difference than that.

As for the temp have you changed your Coolant Temp Sensor?

That's actually right, 45 degrees below freezing Celsius, 81 degrees below freezing in Fahrenheit, so the difference is bigger than it appears. Pretty cold either way

ECTS would be an excellent replacement as suggested by C.Max. I replaced mine even though it wasnt defective. Noticed the needle is a tad below where it was prior to the replacement. OEM ECTS cost me less than 25.00.

Glad it's working. My experience is that winter causes a bunch of vacuum leaks, increased possibility of fuel line leak, strain on components like power steering pump, and exposes/magnifies coolant leaks (especially regarding water pump). So, no love for winter!

-40 is the same on both scales. 5 degrees Celsius = 9 degrees Fahrenheit.

Well thanks guys for your input, when the spring comes I will change the ECTS, I hear is a cheap and easy fix so I will do it eventhough my gauge is still working.

For those of you who want to know how cold it is. It is pretty hard to explain but the feeling is like it is burning your skin and you have trouble feeling your limbs, lets say you gotta have some good winter clothing.

However I love the winter, ice hockey, snowboarding, shoveling are all fun activities for me.

Here are some pictures I took today.

Lastly, I have to say that I love driving our cars in the winter, on the road it offers great stability and it always starts on the first try. Plus, it's quite a big car so it gives you a sense of confidence that I don't have in my bro's acura.

Later !

Love dah pics Maximus. Was the snow a result of a blizzard or is that normal? I wish if NYC had snow like that. -45 C is brutal, I can only imagine whats it's like and dont think I've ever been in such temperatures before.

It's not perfect but i'm a lot happier with it than with the black.

The snow is normal but -45 is not, usually it is around -20 degrees celsius.

As for my bumper, it's a brand new one I installed in the fall. At first it was painted but the paint was coming off to easily. My dumbass forgot to sand it down first. I thought with a good primer it would stick well. My bad. So I decided to take off all of the paint before it looked like cow fur in the front !

I will paint it in the spring, for now there is too much salt, rocks, ice etc... to bother with my bumper. By the way, Hectic, it is because of you that I decided to remove all of the paint. I saw a pic on the forum with your black bumper and I thought to myself that it would not look too bad to have it like that for the winter. Plus my friends can recognize my car easier ! heheh
