*heater core help*

guys,

1. The haynes book told me to de-pressurize and remove AC hoses, Seat, & Carpet. It makes no senses at all as the AC hoses and Seat has no relationship to the heater core box at all. Do I really need to do that cuz Chilton made no mention of it?

2. What chapter of the FSM does it talks about Heater Core? I can't find it anywhere, hint please?

3. Brian (internetautomart), told me to unplug air bag sensing wire, the one with "yellow jacket". Where exactly is this wire, I couldn't find it? Please help, I'm blind

4. To get to the heater core box, all I have to do is rip that HUGE dash apart right? I mean it can't be that too complicated or can it?

ok, what elses do I need to do? please give me as much tips as you can remembered?

bro ive done the heater core change before on a previous maxima of mine and now once more have to do it on my newest maxima i have as i bought it back in july without a working heater core so yes ima be doing a heater core replacement hear soon again. and you cant juz rip the dash apart bro remember ur gonna have to put it all back together like it came apart thats how i would want it no lose extra parts cuz one of those lil parts could be valuable and cause some kinda problem if not there like it should be. and by the wayt how much did u pay for your heater core cuz i juz asked my old nissan dealer sship parts guy back in oklahoma city and he told me lately every month nissan has started to slowly add alil more to the prices of parts for there cars and said that brians deal for his heater core is prolly your cheapest option.

the cheapest OE I got was $160 shipped from courtesy nissan. JerryRomeNissan used to sell them for $90 after all kinds of crazy discount before their internet store went bk. damn, it's too late now.

anyway, when I said "rip" I was referring to taking it apart NOT destroying it lol. Ok since you have done it.... do I need to depressurize and remove AC & Seat? that haynes book is confusing me.

is your a VE or VG well shouldnt really matter as it has nothing to do with ur ac unit and no you dont have to remove the ac line unless im doing it wrong but hell mine worked just fine and i didnt do any ac hose depressurizing and removal at all.I too have one of those manuels and i never say anything in there about depressirizing any ac lines to remove and replace the heater core bro.

umm not sure bro the maxima i did the heater core change out had no airbags it was one of the 92 maximas that came either with or without the airbag in it. but if u look in the index of the hayanes manuel it should say where the airbag wire would be at like try this look for all things to do with airbags and look in those pages for the info on the airbag deactivation if not when i get to college tommorrow ill look it up on alldata for you and get the info and send u the diagram of where its located at. how does that sound?

you can leave the airbag alone. it's on the steering wheel which stay intact when the dash is pulled.

thanx for the added word internetautomar but yeah i had a vg 91 se beofre and replaced the heater core but see my 91 didnt come with standard airbag option but i have never heard of a reason to have to disable anything to do with the air bag to remove the heater core plus id that is the case juz remove the power wire from the battery and do the work this way ur whole electrical system is not getting any voltage to trigger the airbag to deploy if it where too for some crazy instance.

damn... I got some good and bad news.

bad:
I can't get the heater core assembly box out without removing the darn ac condenser box. That box is holding down one corner of the heater box.

Good news:
I took a good sneak peak at the heater core and it appeared to be in great condition... No rusts anywhere, as a matter of fact it looks brand new. So now I can return this new core back to the dealer for refund.

ok, now I ran into a MAJOR problem: CAR ALARM!! I didn't even know we had such stupid device in our car. I have not fully plugged everything back in, roughly 20% to do. My key wouldn't open the trunk so everytime I need to pop the trunk, I need to hook up the battery. When I do that, the stupid ALARM went OFF!!?!??!?!

Guys, how do I disable the stupid ALARM?!??!?

Why did you think your heater core was bad?

My entire heater control valve was rotten dead. Rusted and constantly freezing. And two plastic outlets of the current heater core was reddish, so I thought it must've gotten rust stain.... but it might have gotten it from the red coolant the old owner used. Who knows, the old owners might have changed this core before me. I lost contact of the guy since I brought his car 4 years ago. I don't even know if he's still living in NY.

Unplug the box..
Where is this box? How does it looks like, you don't have be exact...

When I'm done, I would have to plug it back in order to turn on the engine. I bet you the alarm will go off again. Would that be causing any problems and would the problem go away? What if it won't let me turn on ignition, what should I do and prepare for? thanks

urgh crap, *help please*

ok, the good news is if I unplug that anti-theft box, I'm able to turn on and run the car.

Bad news is I can't get into my car... crap!!!! Ever since I brought this car, the only way to get into the car was thru keypad or remote control, none of my stupid door lock works, not even the trunk either. The door/trunk locks will not even me turn the key... argh, so right now I have to use a *slim jim* to brake in. That means, I can't drive anywhere. Crap!

anyone here knows how to work that anti-theft control crap, please help me out.... I'm stuck LOL stupid problem. this car really hates me.

so far, this is where I'm at.... I put back all the main dash boards except for the ones around anti-theft control box. I'd tried resetting ECU, nothing work. I'd tried unplugged that a/theft box, turn on ignition, plug it back in.... it keep honking at me and refused to let my remote unlock the door lock... damn it!! If hooked up a/theft, then start the car...it won't start... argh, it keeps honk! honk! honk!

*help* I know many of you had installed after market car alarms, so I know you knew how to work it. Please please help

I don't think it was after-market. Most after market makes siren noises, this darn thing just honk! honk! honk! I'd looked at the a/theft box, it said ....something made in Japan and had nissan type of OE number on it. So, I think it was factory. and it looks exactly like that FSM diagram you showed me.

I remembered the first time it went off was when I couldn't get in thru my keyless remote. So I had to use a slim jim to break in. Ever since, it's been a nightmare.

take the locks into a locksmith and have them fix it. costs like $50.
the remote is not likely to be factory.
my power locks still work even with my anti-theft disconnected. the power locks have their own controller. had to resolder it for an unrelated issue though.

naw man, I just called a few places.... they wanted $75 - 125 per lock. $125, they'll make a new key even if I don't have original. that's totally bogus dude!

ok, what if get a new ignition lock + key, 1 driver, 1 passenger, and 1 trunk lock from the junkyard. Will it works on my car? Are all these 89-94 locks interchangeable? anyone knows?

Dam, they only charged me $25 to make a key off my glovebox lock. I removed it myself.

try looking in your glovebox for a white sticker with the lock code on it.

I'll take that back... I called several more places down in the ghetto today and it seems like they're more generous on the price. Those guys in the rich snobby places wanted too much.

BTW, you know what? I left that a/theft box unplug for 36hours, I was finally able to use the remote control to unlock my door. Stupid me, I took the box apart out today to see if there were any manual switches I could press to reset it. No lucks, it looks like an EPROM chip. Forget it, once data got written it stays on like magnet. I then blindly hook it back up, then the car honk! honk! honk!. Brilliant me, now I have to wait another 36hours for the remote memory to clear out so I could use it again. I have no idea where it's located inside the car but I'll wait.
