Transmission overful??? whats the deal spray @ WOT

new clutches/band flush..> Tranny.. car hasnt seen street for 7-8 months.. full tune up and such

Well I put the new tags/plates on the maxima earlier today and took it for a drive shifts great @ 6 grand and just driving around i noticed though @ WOT driving transmission fluid sprays out of the open atomsphere tube that hooks to where the solenoids and **** are

so i checked the dipstick to see if the cars fluid was full on the tranny stick it was 8-9 inches up.. so i brought it home and parked it infront of my house. Pulled the vent tube on the tranny stick and it starting pouring fluids out of the dipstick (Doh) so i brought it to level land and it stopped so im pretty confused how to get a accurate reading as far as how much fluids in it and why its spraying??

Told my friend to drive it around lightly since he needed the car since its already his

Proper way to check tranny fluid is drive around for 15-20 minuets to get it hot, put it in drive and with the ebreak on and a brick to stop it (or some one else to hold the brake) and then check the fluid with the car running.

If its as high as you say you need to drain some before its driven any more. Its very bad for the tranny.

WTF are you trying to say? Use punctuation and paragraphs.

At this point just check the tranny fluid as I stated before. Then add or subtract fluid as needed. Common sense man...

i cant post anywhere else so hey guys im Leo and my 91se transmission just quit working. no noise no slippage....i was turning onto a side street @ 15-20 mph and the rpm guage shot through the roof. i pulled over and the car barely made it to the curb, then ............ exactly nothing. now i have no gears at all. the car runs but stutters a little when shifted into gear and i also checked the fluid(good but burnt and in need of change) and the linkage also good. basically im stuck and theres no telling what id do for help ......=) a guy told me the tranny filter is clogged but in my chiltons and online i could only find poop. this is the best place ive found so........please any help would be great.
Thank You,
Leo

well you're comparing a POS dart with a hydraulically shifted trans to a POS maxima with an electrically shifted trans.
the transmission stil has most of the same features except for the solenoids control shifting rather than a governor/servo/hydraulic thingy.
if you were able to rebuild a 727 you can rebuild the RE4F02A in your VG. Same principles apply. it's just a little harder to find a rebuild kit for.

sorry, i did not mean to compare the two. so could the solenoids have fould up?....the last guy just said get a new tranny....i know it can be fixed its 3 years old. they put in a new one when i bought it 3 years ago. i dont know much about these electric transmission thingys... i know about the 727 for my pos dart...( it puts the maximas tail between its legs =) Well a 440 twin 4bbl puts most tails that way....=)anyways i took the tranny pan off and it has a bank of solenoids and electronics on top .would the self diog for the tranny posted here work on my 91? that would help us all if it did.

Sounds like the torque converter is stripped out where the trans shaft splines meet the converter splines, have someone shut off the motor and listen around the bellhousing for the t-converter still spinning a little

if your tranny broke, you might be hearing little peices of metal grinding in there......if you hear that, it is probably your tranny, if not, its probably your torque converter...

BTW make sures its parked on a level surface. I made the mistake of forgetting that and was on a slight incline, and it made a difference. I thought I was leaking tranny fluid(put in synthetic after dino oil) and checked it and it looked low. Later I parked on a flat surface and it was at the correct level.

Happened to me, I needed to rebuild mine. This happened because of the slipping of the shifter. My gears slipped to 2, sometimes N, while I thought it was D and I drove on the freeway with it.

I thought to check trans fluid, the car has to be off like checking oil. Chiltons suck. It has no chapters about antennas. A true manual should contain all components of the car and not spend the majority on smog emmissions.

(Needs manual to disassemble the Maxima without breaking pieces)
